Did you notice I switched to Disqus for comments?

If you've commented on my blog before this week, you probably noticed that I switched to Disqus for my comments instead of just using what Blogger provides. I like how easy it is to use Blogger, but there have been a few times that I have wanted to reply directly to someone's comment and have been unable to. Blogger doesn't give me an email and if you have a Google+ account and haven't added any contact information, then there is no way for me to contact you. Sure, they have a chat option, but I can only use it if you're online right then. Disqus has everyone log in and that information is stored so that I can choose to have my reply/message sent to the email used. Much better!

There were a few hangups. I didn't use the right browser settings when I changed it and so I lost all my old comments. Such a bummer! I now know how to avoid that (hopefully) if I ever have to do it again.

The main reason I'm posting about my switch is for those who may have some issued leaving a comment. This might happen if you get a message saying that the browser you're using doesn't support Disqus. It took me a while to figure out what was going on when this happened to me on other blogs in the past, so I wanted to help you out. I don't want to lose any comments because of the switch. If this applies to you, let me tell you what you'll need to do.

If you're using any other browser except Internet Explorer, you shouldn't have this issue. For IE users, press the "F12" button on the top of your keyboard. This will pop up a box at the bottom of your screen. On the top menu bar of that screen on the right side, it says "Document Mode: IE7 standards" (mine says IE9 standards, but if you're unable to use Disqus you're not in the right mode). Just click on "Document Mode" and switch it to IE8 or IE9 - whichever you'd like to use. The page will refresh, you can close that window, and you will now be able to use Disqus. If this continues happening when you visit my blog another time, that means that you need to clear your cache.

Please let me know if changing to Disqus has affected any of you negatively. I love comments and I'm hoping Disqus will work for the best, but if it's not the best choice, then I will go back to using Blogger's version.

Thanks,
