Author Interview

Welcome to my blog today! Let's jump right in to my questions...

Q. What inspired you to write TRAVELER?

A. When I was eight we were living in England, and I watched an old version of “Alice Through The Looking Glass” on TV (it was the 1974 version, which was really creepy). I happened to pass a mirror afterward and thought it would be cool if there was another ‘me’ on the other side. I stared at my reflection for a long time until - I swear to you - I saw the other me blink. It scared me a lot to the point that I still get a creepy feeling if I catch my reflection out of the corner of my eye.

A. Would you tell us a little about the main characters in TRAVELER, Jessa and Finn?

Q. Jessa is a writer, and a bit of an introvert. She has strong ties to her family, but generally likes to live her life through the stories she writes. She’s also a dreamer – and by that I mean it literally. She has vivid dreams and frequently bases her stories off of them. In her dreams is a recurring guy with dark hair and green eyes – Finn. Finn is a mysterious figure – protective of Jessa but at the same time torn by events in his past that make it hard for him to be around her.

Q. What was your favorite alternate reality and why?

A. The steampunk reality, hands-down. That’s where Jessa meets the pirate version of Finn, and Pirate Finn is a force to be reckoned with.

Q. Do you have a favorite scene you could share with us?

A.On her second visit to the steampunk reality, Jessa attends a ball and it was tremendous fun to write and envision that scene.

Q. What are some of your favorite books?

A. I’m going to go old-school here: The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury (no one could paint with words like Ray Bradbury), The Chronicles of Narnia, The Harry Potter series (I still reread them), The Mortal Instruments series and Stephenie Meyers’ The Host.

Q. What are you looking forward to reading this year?

A. From my Swoon Sisters, Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde and The Truth About Happily Ever After by Karole Cozzo. I’m also looking forward to reading Frost Blood by Elle Blake, and Cashmere by Temple West.

Q. What are you working on next?

A. Right now, I’m finishing up final edits on Dreamer, the sequel to Traveler. Once that’s put to bed, I have 3 different stories warring in my head. One is an epic adventure YA fantasy based on the mythology of ancient Ireland, another is a contemporary YA Sci-Fi thriller with a lot of psychological elements, and the last is a YA fantasy set on another planet with loads of magical stuff going on. Not sure which one will win yet!

Thanks for stopping by and answering my questions!
