Summary

When Matt Knight left his career as a spy to marry the woman of his dreams, he thought he was in for a life of domestic bliss. But after adopting a baby girl and her teenage brother from China, he finds that being a father comes with its own set of challenges—problems that his work as an antiterrorism agent did nothing to prepare him for. Or so he thought. When a Scout campout with his son takes a terrifying turn, Matt realizes his past and present have just collided, with devastating consequences. Deep in the rugged mountains of Utah, a band of mercenaries lies in wait. The target: Matt Knight. Their orders come from a dangerous enemy from the former agent’s past, one who is bent on destroying everything Matt holds dear. While struggling to protect his son and the other Scouts, Matt is horrified to learn the full extent of the plan: his wife and baby have been taken too. Now the agent-turned-family man must draw on his years of combat training in an explosive battle to save those he loves—or die trying.

I'm waiting on... Black Widow: Red Vengeance by Margaret Stohl (Waiting on Wednesday)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I am so excited for this second installment in the Black Widow YA universe after reading the first book last year (review here)! It's my WOW pick this week:

Perfect for romance readers... First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (Review)

First Star I See Tonight (Chicago Stars, #8)First Star I See Tonight
(Chicago Stars #8)
by Susanne Elizabeth Phillips
Adult Contemporary Romance
Paperback & ebook, 384 Pages
August 23rd 2016 by William Morrow

Summary

A star quarterback and a feisty detective play for keeps in this sporty, sexy, sassy novel—a long-awaited new entry in the beloved, award-winning, New York Times bestselling author’s fan-favorite Chicago Stars football series.

Piper Dove is a woman with a dream—to become the best detective in the city of Chicago. First job? Trail former Chicago Stars quarterback, Cooper Graham. Problem? Graham’s spotted her, and he’s not happy.

Which is why a good detective needs to think on her feet. “The fact is...I’m your stalker. Not full-out barmy. Just...mildly unhinged.”

Piper soon finds herself working for Graham himself, although not as the bodyguard he refuses to admit he so desperately needs. Instead, he’s hired her to keep an eye on the employees at his exclusive new nightclub. But Coop’s life might be in danger, and Piper’s determined to protect him, whether he wants it or not. (Hint: Not!) If only she weren’t also dealing with a bevy of Middle Eastern princesses, a Pakistani servant girl yearning for freedom, a teenager who just wants to fit in, and an elderly neighbor demanding Piper find her very dead husband.

And then there’s Cooper Graham himself, a legendary sports hero who always gets what he wants—even if what he wants is a feisty detective hell bent on proving she’s as tough as he is.

From the bustling streets of Chicago to a windswept lighthouse on Lake Superior to the glistening waters of Biscayne Bay, two people who can’t stand to lose will test themselves and each other to discover what matters most.

A perfectly sweet romance... The Fall of Lord Drayson by Rachael Anderson (Review)

The Fall of Lord DraysonThe Fall of Lord Drayson
(Tanglewood #1)
by Rachael Anderson
Adult Historical Romance
Paperback & ebook, 242 Pages
August 29th 2016 by HEA Publishing

Summary

Who is he really? A high and mighty lord or a lowly servant?

When Colin Cavendish, the new earl of Drayson, informs Lucy Beresford that she and her mother need to vacate the house they’ve called home for the past two years, Lucy is fit to be tied. They have no money, no relations they can turn to for help, and nowhere to go. How dare the earl break the promise his father had made to the Beresfords without so much as a twinge of conscience?

Fate plays her hand when Lucy discovers the earl unconscious and injured in the middle of the road. When he awakens with no recollection of who he is, Lucy seizes the opportunity to teach the earl a much-needed lesson in humility and tells him that he is nothing more than a mere servant. Her servant, in fact.

And thus begins the charming tale of a pompous lord and an impetuous young woman, caught together in a web so tangled that it begs the question: Will they ever get out?

Weekly Update #179, in which I'm getting over a cold...

Welcome to my Weekly Update where I post my blog's schedule for the week! I'm linking up to The Sunday Post, hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer, as well as to Tynga's Reviews for Stacking the Shelves and Talk Supe for Bought, Borrowed, and Bagged showcasing the books I added to my shelves or Kindle this week.

I finally adjusted to having all the kids in school after over a week and then my youngest came home Monday with a cold, which I then caught by Tuesday night. Not fun to say the least! :/ At least this week wasn't scheduled to be busy so we hung out (and I actually miss spending time with her, just the two of us) and I slept and read. Overall, not the best week, but it's over and on to a new week, which will hopefully be a little more productive.

Here's what to expect this week:

I'm sharing my newest favorite... P.S. I Like You by Kasie West (Friday Favorites)

Friday Favorites is a meme that spotlights a favorite author, book, series, publisher, cover, blog, etc. Basically whatever bookish thing that I have loved, would recommend, and want to tell others about. You can see all of my Friday Favorites here. You're welcome to join in as well!

I LOVE Kasie West. I haven't been disappointed with one of her books yet. Some I love more than others, of course, but they're all good. I thought the whole premise behind this story sounded really fun and was also thrilled when I found out that this would be releasing in hardcover. That format last so much better through multiple re-readings. So, what did I love about this one? Find out below...
