Summary

What will it cost this bodyguard to save the woman he loves?

Bodyguard, Tate Marshall, has always been the family troublemaker. Maybe it’s his impulsive propensity to get into the middle of problems that don’t belong to him. But once in, he can’t stop himself from trying to solve them and that includes his recent dilemma. He’s in love with the woman he’s supposed to protect, the beautiful Gloria, “Glo” Jackson, daughter of US Senator and presidential hopeful Reba Jackson. A member of the country band, the Yankee Belles, Glo was targeted in a recent terrorist attack designed to deter her mother from running.

Glo is as stubborn as her mother, and Glo isn’t about to hide from threats, at least the kind that won’t cost her heart. Because she’s already paid a terrible price for the war on terror, and she can’t let herself love a man who might die, especially because of her.

As the campaign heats up and the threats deepen, so does the attraction between Tate and Glo. But when they’re discovered, and Tate is fired, what will he do to protect the woman he loves?
And what will Glo do to keep from losing another man to the costs of war?

The gripping second installment of the Marshall Family series.

My Review

TATE picks up right from where the first book in the series ended. It's a story of two people yearning to find love and thinking they need to prove themselves, when really, they already have God's love and the love of each other if they will only let go and accept it. There is a suspenseful undertone from the first to the last page, with certain moments of danger spread throughout the story and a climatic ending. The romance is full of tension, with plenty of sweet moments. Definitely recommended to fans of this author and intense inspirational romantic suspense.

I was so glad that I read KNOX before I began this story. You could read them on their own, but each story is so involved in the other, that it's best if you read them in order. I feel like each of the Marshall boys have different demons they're trying to overcome. I really liked Tate and Glo and the rest of the Marshall clan, as well as Ford and Scarlett (whose story starts in this book). Tate has been labelled the troublemaker and bad boy, but also the hero. He has his fears, his hopes, his weaknesses, and his strengths. He wants Glo to be safe and to be with him more than anything, but it's a complex situation with Glo's own issues and her mother's manipulations thrown into the mix. Glo is good in her heart, but lets others dictate who she is and has lost herself a little. Tate challenges that, but also offers love without strings. The romance has plenty of swoon-worthy moments. Their story is volatile. Both their romance and the danger that is lurking, and both come to a head in this story.

There were a few things that didn't quite feel right. That were maybe overly forced and didn't feel as genuine. A few things that needed to be edited more. I also felt Glo was a little strong in how she tried to push Tate away and her being so lost in who she is made it hard to love her as the heroine. Even at the end, she's still being manipulated and I didn't really full get her coming into her own and standing up for herself. It's there, but not until the very end and I wanted more. The inspirational element also felt a bit forced and I didn't feel the characters were allowed time to build their connection to God.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This story was full of emotions as these characters tried to navigate their lives, face danger and evil, and try to decide if they will open their hearts to love. With the Marshall boys, there is never a dull moment, and I'm looking forward to continuing Ford's story in the next book.

Content: Some violence and innuendo.
