Summary

Lucas Berkeley has a secret—one he cannot risk anyone discovering. After all, a future marquess belongs in drawing rooms, not underground boxing circles. Yet with a painful past and a need to control every aspect of his life, it is his only outlet. And when his brother begins to court the one woman who could ruin everything, Lucas needs the secret diversion more than ever.

Lydia Faraday is exhausted from living a life in which she has no say. When her taciturn guardian drags her to London intent on marrying her off, she determines to thwart his plans. If she is to have freedom in any aspect of her existence, it ought to be with whom she marries. And when a solicitor turns up with new information, she thinks that just might be possible. Or it may complicate her future further.

When Lucas and Lydia become entangled in a dangerous scheme, they cannot help but become closer, even as the obstacles between them grow. The last thing either is looking for is love. But their hearts have different plans.

My Review

NO MATCH FOR LOVE is a story about loss, heartache, and misplaced guilt. It's also about family, friendship, dreams, new beginnings and love. The characters are all well drawn and likable with a palpable chemistry between the two love interests. The plot is engaging and emotionally driven, keeping readers invested. A delightful historical romance highly recommended to fans of the author and genre!

I liked so many aspects of this story! The characters were especially favorites, and not just Lucas and Lydia, but also the secondary characters who each had their own distinct personalities. Lucas was a bit of the dark and brooding hero while Lydia was full of sunshine and humor. I thought they balanced each other out marvelously. I loved how his stoicism was met by her cheer and humor. The banter and chemistry were also excellent in this book. Both characters had past heartbreak that formed who they were and their choices, some of which they needed to work through to move forward. There was a lovely family dynamic (not as much on Lydia's side), the social setting and some suspense and danger that kept things interesting. The ending was especially sweet and lovely.

I don't have much to complain about with this book. There were a few minor things that didn't logically make sense to me or feel realistic.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This was a wonderful story! Easily consumable and purely joyful to read. I'm happily anticipating this author's next release!

About the Author

Karen Thornell grew up reading when she should have been sleeping, but it wasn't until 2019 that she started writing. Tired of ending books and saying 'goodbye' to beloved characters, she wondered what it would be like to have her own characters that lived in her head always. It was probably a mark of sleep deprivation that she wanted people living in her head, but the idea was planted regardless.

Karen lives in Utah with her husband and kids. When not writing contemporary or regency romance, she spends her free time doing endless loads of laundry, playing board games, and, yes, talking to those characters in her head.

He placed several used wineglasses into the mini dishwasher below the counter and glanced up when the front doors opened. Surprise shot through him at the late arrival. But his smile spread slowly as if he wanted to keep the happiness to himself.

The intriguing woman walking toward the bar had always stirred something inside him. Back when he first met her, she’d been willowy and tall for her age. He’d never minded much when she looked him in the eye with her bold gaze and accepted his dares. Same as she hadn’t backed down at the lake just that morning.

If he’d been of a mind to challenge for hearts, he’d consider hers a worthy prize. Even though his own heart had never been up for the taking. Still, he couldn’t deny that the cowboy who claimed her heart would be the luckiest person around. And Caleb hated him already.

He scrubbed at a stain on the bar and tried to rescue his suddenly deflating smile. “Evening, Deputy Nash.”

“I’m off the clock.” She dropped her purse on a barstool. “I’m just Lacey right now.”There was nothing just about this particular cowgirl, even now with her chin-length red hair, striking dark brown eyes, and a certain poise that came from losing and winning life’s battles. Not that he was noticing as anything more than an impartial former-friend-turned-temporary-bartender. “Well, Just Lacey, what can I get you?”

Can't Wait for... Casters and Crowns by Elizabeth Lowham (Can't-Wait Wednesday) #CWW #WOW #bookx #newbooks #fantasy #yalit #yabooks #romancebooks #cleanreads @ShadowMountn

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted here to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they're books that have yet to be released. Find out more here.

This publisher has had a few fantasy series in the YA and adult genre and I have yet to not like this genre from them. I'm also a romance fan, so this YA romancy sounds like it'll be a perfect read for me. It's my pick this week...

Summary

Cursed by magic, bound by mistakes, Princess Aria’s destiny hinges on the mysterious Baron Reeves. Will love be enough to break the curse, or will war bring her kingdom to ruin? A new romantasy by Elizabeth Lowham.

When Crown Princess Aria sees her kingdom on the brink of war with the magic-wielding Casters, she takes it upon herself to speak with the Widow Morton, the most dangerous Caster in the realm. If successful, Aria will not only ensure peace but also prove to her father that she is a worthy heir. But when her negotiations fail, Aria is dealt a terrible curse: Over the course of one hundred days, she will be unable to sleep, her body and mind doomed to waste away. And then the curse will pass to her sister, until every member of the king’s line is dead.

Aria’s best hope for breaking her curse is to seek help from another Caster—the handsome and charming Baron Reeves. He may be entitled to a place at the court, but as a magic user, can he truly be trusted? She vows not be fooled by his dimpled smiles or his devotion to his brothers, but as she spends more time with him, she discovers that her heart has other ideas.

Baron has no desire to see the princess suffer—especially since she might be the key to changing the king’s opinion on Casters—but he has secrets to protect and ghosts of his own. The last person he tried to save using his magic died, and he’s not willing to risk harming someone he loves again.

As the curse continues its deadly countdown, both Aria and Baron must risk their lives and their hearts to save each other and unite a kingdom.
