My Review

HER LOST AND FOUND BABY is a heartwarming story about two people who form an agreement to support each other as they try to work through some difficult things, Tabitha to find her kidnapped son, and Johnny to fulfill his late wife's dream of running a food truck with the proceeds going to charity. They begin as neighbors, then business partners, move to friends, and then things change as they start to develop stronger feelings for each other. The suspense element is very slight, but still plays a vital role in their relationship as they work together to bring Tabitha's son home to her. Romance lovers will find much to love here!

This author always does such a fabulous job in writing relatable, genuine characters who are easy to connect with and emotionally invest in. Tabitha and Johnny are no different. They are very much opposites in their circumstances, Tabitha having to work for everything, not necessarily being well off and having no close friends or family, while Johnny was born rich, is still rich, has loving parents and extended family, and has pretty much been successful with everything he's done. Their worlds are very different. Yet they connect and develop a romance as they work so closely with each other.

"Sometimes you have to believe before you see." - Tabitha

I really loved the light humor and the romance. I loved how Johnny was so unabashedly honest. I also loved how the romance slowly developed. They both try to resist, but they just can't help falling for each other. I also found the situation involving Tabitha's kidnapped son interesting and heartbreaking. I liked how the situation and how it was handled came across as accurate and realistic. Then there's this absolutely fabulous ending! *sigh*

I had just a few issues with the story. First, the beginning felt somewhat rushed. There wasn't a whole lot of getting to know the characters prior to their agreement or see how they first meet and work the whole agreement out. It's already in place and they've already been working together for about nine months when the story begins. I would have loved a little more development in the story there. Although, with this having a smaller page count I can see why the story had to be moved along. Second, there were places where the POV changed and it took me a bit to figure that out. The voice wasn't quite strong enough for me to know the POV had changed, or to know who's POV it was, Tabitha's or Johnny's.

"Because you only fail when you quit trying and I am never, ever going to stop." - Johnny

In the end, was it what I wished for? Overall, this was a heartwarming romance with a little heat and a bittersweet situation with a kidnapped child. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to Taylor's next release.

Summary

Angels are real.
So are demons.

Shady Creek gets a whole lot scarier after Julia learns she's part angel, especially since the only person she can trust is an angel who's as infuriating as he is attractive.

Julia received a necklace containing the songs of the angels from her dad when she was four. When she was eleven, he abandoned her family and the necklace went silent. At seventeen, Julia's doing everything she can to maintain security for her family, but now her necklace seems to have come to life once again. And that's not all that's changing.

When a robber attempts to steal from their diner, the necklace blazes and burns her chest. Pain in her back is nearly unbearable as the thief transforms before her eyes... into something demonic.

Demon after demon threaten Julia's home, family, and friends, and she realizes there may have been something more behind her dad's disappearance. And now there may be something--or someone--dangerous after her.

Julia has to accept that she is not quite human. Will her infuriating but attractive Guardian Angel be able to prepare her for the battle to come?

Excerpt from When Ash Rains Down

“Fight!" yells the golden-haired man.

A swarm of warriors, some with halos, some with wings, materializes and charges at the monsters. It's a beautiful, horrific sight. In the moment I take staring, I've gone from the front line to the center of the mob in three seconds flat. I'm like the rock in the middle of a fast-moving river. When a green-headed monster with fangs and a black tongue swoops down from the treetops, nearly landing on my head, any fear that may have sprung up vanishes. Fury like steel surges through me and I stick him through the throat with my spear.

An acrid, watery discharge the color of blood sprays everywhere. Its bitterness chokes me and leaves its stench at the back of my throat. I can't stop spitting except to breathe to keep from vomiting. Before I can grasp what I'd just done, another monster lunges at me. This one is crimson-colored, with violet eyes, and ears that are pointy and large. Its mouth is wide and toothless. Out of nowhere, tentacles materialize. They dance and reach toward me, their touch like snakes slithering across my body.

I pull the spear back, and it's slippery and heavy. I adjust my hands, but it doesn't feel right. I think, pray, whimper, "Sword!" instead of a helpless spear, and miraculously a silver-tipped blade with a blazing, peridot handle materializes in my hand. My sword, the one I'd left behind. With no time to admire it, I slice the demon's arms off, one-by-one, and a menacing scream pierces my ears each time until finally, with one final swoop, I behead it. A fountain of thick green sprays from its neck. I race away, toward where the golden-haired man fights a gray mound, the demon's only feature a slit for a mouth.

He pierces it somewhere near its center, and it disappears except for a poof of black sand that drifts toward the ground, like ash popping out of a campfire. "Follow me," he shouts amidst the yelling and inhuman growls. Darting looks around, I follow, sword ready. Both women and men wear halos and shine with a glorious light radiating around them. No demons follow, but I hurry after the man, regardless.

Once we are far enough away that the sounds of battle become mere echoes off the trunks of trees, I ask, "Who are all those people?" I look him straight in his golden eyes. "Who are you?"
"Michael." And as he says it, great white wings unfold behind him, sounding like heavy canvas flapping in the wind. He juts his chin over his shoulder. "They're Warrior Angels and the saints who choose to fight Lucifer's demons with us."

I can't help but shiver. The devil. I look back at this man—this angel, Michael. Could he be the Archangel, Michael?

"Nicholas hopes to be in charge of a squadron of saints one day. It's one of the reasons he's—"

"Angry?"

"There's a lot you probably don't know yet. Give him time," he implores, dropping his gaze to mine, lowering his sword so that its tip touches the ground. "You fought well. Thank you. I know it's not what you wanted to do, but I hope you'll choose to continue helping us. The devil's demons grow in number and power, and you proved yourself to be an asset to my army. With some training, you will be very strong, even stronger than you were today."

Summary

If only humans knew the invisible danger lurking around them...

In the aftermath of an explosion and Homecoming battle, Julia tries to form some semblance of a routine: work, study, and visit her brother who remains hospitalized. Unable to confide in anyone about her double life of being both human and angel, and fearful she'll bring more death and destruction to those she loves, she pulls away from her family and best friend.

When demons once again start to show up at every turn, seemingly bringing about her brother's deepening depression, she demands her sword from Nicholas. Ever the stern Guardian Angel, he forbids her from using it. Isolated, she takes protecting her brother into her own hands. But when demons show they have evils hidden within their weapons in addition to their ability to siphon souls from the living, Julia's not sure she knows the best way to handle saving him any longer. Especially when ash-colored lines begin to appear on humans, lines of demonic poison that travel through their veins toward their hearts and alter their moods.

Thrust into a dark world of conspiring demons, Julia is in more danger than she ever imagined possible. To stop evil from spreading and overtaking those she loves, she'll have to seek out the one person she mistrusts most--especially when a line appears on her own arm, and her apathy toward doing much of anything, including saving anyone, grows.

Enter a complex world where humans, demons, and angels collide, all battling to rule the Earth.

Summary

Hell is nothing like Julia imagined and beyond everything she feared.

The little town of Shady Creek is under attack by Lucifer and his demons. To save the people she loves, human-angel Hybrid Julia must rescue their kidnapped Guardian Angels, even when it means defying her father.

Trouble is, he knows only too much about Hell's perils. When a demon sucks Julia into a cosmic vacuum, the experience leaves an indelible blight she dares not mention for fear of losing her place on the angelic rescue team.

As a growing demon army surrounds Shady Creek, Julia's feelings for her own Guardian become all too real and dangerous. But the cosmic imbalance fueled by Hybrid Angels, Rogue Guardians and Warriors is already depleting the strength of the rescue team. And there's no room for distraction when the mission is to get into Hell—and out again.

For the sake of the mission, Julia must face the truth of the Hybrids' existence. Because nobody will be safe unless she can trust the gift of free will—for others and for herself—in this end-of-the-world finale to The Legend of Shady Creek Trilogy.

Summary

Inventive and heart-racing, this fiercely feminist teen fantasy trilogy from debut author Bree Barton examines a dark kingdom in which only women can possess magic—and every woman is suspected of having it.

Mia Rose wants only one thing: revenge against the Gwyrach—feared, reviled, and magical women—who killed her mother. After years training under her father’s infamous Hunters, Mia is ready. She will scour the four kingdoms, find her mother’s murderer, and enact the Hunters’ Creed: heart for a heart, life for a life.

But when Mia is thrust into the last role she ever wanted—promised wife to the future king—she plots a daring escape. On her wedding night, Mia discovers something she never imagined: She may be a Huntress, but she’s also a Gwyrach. As the truth comes to light, Mia must untangle the secrets of her own past. Now if she wants to survive, Mia must learn to trust her heart . . . even if it kills her.

Guest Post: How to Know if You’re a Gwyrach

Y/N   Find a red fojuen arrowhead and hold it to your chest. Does your heart beat wildly while your head burns like molten lava?

Y/N   Think back on your mother and grandmother. Were they often whispering secrets to one another when they thought you couldn’t hear?

Y/N   Touch the skinned knee of a child. Is the broken skin mended from your touch?

Y/N   Touch the wrist of someone you dislike. Does the blood stop flowing in their veins?*

Y/N   Have you always suspected you have tremendous power inside you, a power to hurt and a power to heal?

Y/N  Remove one of your gloves and walk outside. Do people shriek in horror?

Y/N   Are you in the dungeons of Kaer Killian, taking this quiz on a piece of moldy bread?

*Best to practice with a physician present.

If you answered “no” to four or more questions, congratulations! You are not a Gwyrach. If you are a woman, it is possible you are in denial about your true power. We advise reading as many books as possible, and not the ones in the castle library. For the time being you are safe…unless the king deems you guilty and carts you to Kaer Killian, never to be seen again.

If you answered “yes” to four or more questions, congratulations! You are a Gwyrach, Daughter of Flesh, Descendent of Angels. You must flee the river kingdom immediately. Find your way through the twisted forest, across the salted sea, and into the land of the volqanoes, where you will be welcomed as the great and glorious goddess you are.

Reading Is My SuperPower - Review

"If you love a mix of historical and contemporary, this is the perfect collection for you. Each story gives readers a taste of each individual author’s style and voice, so it’s also a great way to ‘meet’ some authors you’ve perhaps never read before. The stories are all unique and sweet, with tender romance, humor, and lots of heart. A great weekend read!"

Uplifting Reads - Review

"So these five stories, all woven together by this mystical locket, all have their own charm (pun somewhat intended). I think romance readers will find that at least one of these couples and stories appeals to them. Another great summer day read."

Cafinated Reads - Review

"This was a good, quick read. I enjoy reading anthologies and this is one of the best collections of romances I’ve read in quite some time. These authors truly knew what to bring their fans and gave them a beautiful book filled with hope, longing and inspiration."

Remembrancy - Review

"Each author in Legacy of the Heart lends her voice and style to the overall collection that has a strong cohesion with the introduction of the locket. A definite must-read from lovers of novellas, lovers of romance, or lovers of a great story collection."

Christian Bookshelf Reviews - Review

"Legacy of the Heart was a wonderful novella collection. I enjoyed all five of the stories and liked how some were historical and others were contemporary. The way the locket played a part in each novella was interesting and I really enjoyed how it connected them."

Locks, Hooks and Books - Review

"I enjoyed all five of these stories. I did find them predictable but I did not care. Such a good, sweet, clean, and romantic book. I give Legacy of the Heart 4 1/2 stars. It is most definitely worth a read."

Heidi Reads... - Review

"I enjoyed the stories in this collection and seeing the locket pass from one character to another. The first two stories are historical, and the last three are contemporary."

Splashes of Joy - Review

"Legacy of the Heart is a collection of 5 really wonderful romance stories. For me, reading these stories in the order that’s in the book was better for me to understand and get the full stories. . . . What interest and fun it was to see this locket play out in each other the stories, in its own way. I highly recommend this book for those looking for a good clean romance collection."

Among the Reads - Review

"I enjoy novella collections that have a common thread woven through them like this. The authors did a great job with the continuity of the theme. I was impressed by the way the characters who were introduced in one story were so naturally and seamlessly carried into the next as the main character."

Brittany McEuen - Review

"Legacy of the Heart was such an enjoyable novella collection! . . . I liked the continuity that the locket brought to the collection, yet, I also appreciated that the novellas were each unique in the way the locket played into the plot. . .

This is definitely a good collection to grab hold of for fans of sweet and inspirational romance!"
