Summary

The heart is deceitful above all things. Who can understand it?

When Juliana Issot’s godmother invites her to spend the month of Christmas at a house party in Yorkshire, Juliana feels compelled by affection to accept. Never mind that she escaped Yorkshire at first chance to secure a more glittering match in London and that the only matrimonial prospect back homeis her childhood playmate, Willelm.

Willelm Armitage is a born-and-bred Yorkshireman, and as far as he is concerned, Juliana belongs here, too—here at his side. However, the one time he dared to convince her of this, she speedily gave him the right-about, making him question whether she truly is the right choice for him. After all, if she cannot see how well they suit, why should he force her hand ?

A Christmas house party with pudding, games, charades, riding, and carols turns out to be just the thing to remind Juliana of how much she loves Yorkshire. But when her nostalgia slips into love, will she be able to admit that Willelm knows the longings of her heart better than she knows her own?

My Review

A YORKSHIRE CAROL is a delightful, festive, romantic story set during Christmastime at a month-long house party. Fans of Regency romances and this author will adore this story! Highly recommended!

I have read and listened to this story and can recommend both as well as reading this more than once. It's definitely worth having on your shelves. The narrator did a fabulous job with all her voice inflections. Sometimes I feel like books are overdramatized, but she was a great fit for this story and represented the characters very well, even down to some of the accents.

It's one of those stories to grab when you need a feel-good story or something to relax with that will make you smile. There's a bit of humor, some matchmaking, friendships and all the celebrations of the season while also the entertainments of a house party. I found the characters to be delightful, even the the side characters all the way down to the adorable pets. I loved that Juliana and Willelm were childhood friends and have this deep understanding of each other. There were so many good moments between them. Some of them serious words of counsel and understanding and others of humor and romance. Of course, their path couldn't be all easy and the author did well in putting a few misunderstandings and misperceptions in place that felt authentic. The ending is sweet and perfect for this story.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I loved this book! I can't recommend it enough for sweet Regency romance fans!
