Matchmaker for Hire by Rachel John & Picture Perfect by Heather B. Moore (Review & Review Brief)

This first book includes a full review, but the second includes a review brief.
Review briefs are just like they sound, a briefer review (and usually for more
than one book) than my norm for books that I want or need to share about.
It's also a play off of legal briefs, which include just what you need to know...

Summary

After her political marriage implodes, Alison Taylor avoids the world, only venturing out to help her best friend participate in a reality matchmaking show. Alison thinks the whole thing is a bad idea, especially when the show's host is the horrible Dale Bernard, a former gossip hound who used to mock her for a living. She vows to watch him like a hawk and keep her friend from getting hurt.

Dale Bernard regrets all insults and jokes he used to fling around, but Alison Taylor deserves his apologies the most. When they meet unexpectedly, he hopes to make amends, especially when he can't deny the pull he feels towards her. Putting her friend on his show might be going too far, but otherwise, he might never see Alison again.

Alison can’t believe Dale keeps showing up at her house, pretending he needs her help with his stupid show. She shouldn’t enjoy spending time with him, but she does. And she definitely should keep it a secret, but prying eyes want to know…

My Review

MATCHMAKER FOR HIRE is a fun romance about two people who find that you can't take others at how they appear or on first impression. The characters were likable, the plot moved at a good pace, and the main characters' relationship develops gradually into romance as the story unfolds. An enjoyable story from the first page to the last.

There were several things I loved about this story... First off, I really loved the characters. They both have been in the public spotlight, but want their lives to be more private and normal. They've also faced some difficult things and have tried, or are trying, to make resolutions. They weren't what you usually find in the genre (at least from my experience) and their situation was also unique, making for a unique story with a few twists. Usually the reality show heroine would be your main character, but in this case, that's a secondary romance and the main romance is her best friend. I loved the tension between Alison and Dale that created some romantic chemistry between them. They start somewhat at odds, end up becoming friends, and then begin falling for each other from there.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I was pleasantly surprised, being the first time I've read anything by this author, by how much I enjoyed this story. I loved reading it! I will definitely be looking for more books by this author.

My Review

PICTURE PERFECT is an enjoyable romance about two old friends who find unexpected love. It's short and sweet, but easy to fall for these characters and cheer them on to their happily ever after. Some more character development and length would have been nice to get to know these characters better, but it is a novella, so not unexpected.
