Summary

Nestled in the picturesque Rocky Mountains, lies the quaint town of Merryton, Colorado. You will never find finer people or better friends. But try keeping a secret in Merryton and you will soon find that the good townspeople are better than any private investigator or undercover journalist. The men and women of Merryton are like living barometers, and when a storm is brewing in the life of one of their own, they are sure to get to the bottom of it--and forecast it on the Merryton grapevine.

Jessica and Blake Summers know a thing or two about what it’s like to be the latest and greatest news on the vine. Their thirteen year marriage has had more than its fair share of heartache and loss. Then the past comes knocking, in the form of a teenage girl, a daughter Blake never knew existed. The news sets the Merryton grapevine on fire.

In the wake of this revelation and firestorm, Blake and Jessica are forced to reevaluate their own relationship and priorities, all while learning that raising a teenage girl is not for the faint of heart. But in the midst of the chaos and uncertainty, they discover that Madeline may just be what the doctor ordered to heal their broken hearts and mend their own tattered relationship.

Will they have the courage to look forward and find a greater love than they could ever imagine? Or will past hurts and the town grapevine tear them apart?

My Review

JESSIE BELLE was a heartfelt story that tugged on my emotions. It was filled with family, friends, and plenty of romance. With a marriage on the rocks after being dealt with continuous blows Jessica and Blake had some turbulent waters to get through. Add to their rocky relationship a tough situation with a surprise tween daughter and the situation became a whole lot more tense. The author did a fabulous job in letting the characters and story feel authentic. I was invested and engaged while also being equally torn and elated through this emotional roller-coaster story about rekindling love. Making it one of the best down-to-heart stories I've read this year!

Let's talk about these characters. Jessica, or "Jessie," was an independent, sweetheart, beautiful, and talented woman. Blake was her equal in every way. He was dependable, hard-working, loyal, and one attractive guy. Somehow they started off things wrong in their marriage and didn't quite handle things right later on when hardships came, forcing them apart instead of closer together. I loved how the author really let these characters struggle, screw up, but also try to fix their issues and have successes as they tried to fix their marriage. It wasn't always enjoyable, but I've learned that the best stories are those that have both sadness and happiness because it makes the happily-ever-endings and joy that much sweeter. Maddie was also a fun addition and a sweetheart of her own. Then you had other characters, such as Jessie's parents and girlfriends, that livened up the story and added some additional character. I loved them all.

The story was paced well, with highs and lows, places where I wanted to shake or strangle certain characters, and then places where I just wanted to sigh with contentment, or maybe swoon. There were no huge climatic moments, but there were still plenty of climaxes where the characters had to choose between two different choices or actions. As a wife and mother, I related so well to the entire story.

If you've enjoyed Peel's other books, enjoy women's fiction, or romance with plenty of heart, definitely pick this one up! I'm looking forward to the next story in this series and hopefully a few more thereafter.
