Summary
Her mission was simple — get close to the Prince, and kill him. . .
Kayden entered the palace under a lie, one designed to get her close to the Prince. On the outside, she may look like a princess but beneath the mask, a killer lays in wait — for the perfect moment.
Dvarius was not ready to take the crown, nor was he ready for a wife . . . but due to his father’s unexpected death and an archaic law — he must find a bride before he is allowed to take his rightful place on the throne.
And the one woman he wants — just might be the one who is there to kill him...
My Review
A RELUCTANT ASSASSIN pulled my interest with the fabulous cover and the synopsis. I tend to like stories with female assassins, dangerous missions, and desirable princes. This story had all three and was set in a futuristic, or Dystopian, United States. The plot was interesting as were the characters. There was an inspirational element, a strong romance from the beginning, friendship, and some political plotting, which all made for an intriguing story.
I liked following the plotting the most. There were some things that were kept mysterious, some characters plotting behind the prince's back, and other things that the heroine, Kayden, was taught that ended up being false. These made for misconceptions, confusion, and danger as the characters tried to figure things out. I thought the overall plot and story was creative and enjoyable, but would have liked a little more depth, consistency (or maybe for the characters to feel more authentic as they felt a little young and inconsistent to who their characters are supposed to be), and more character development.
Overall, an enjoyable read. I'm curious to see what the future holds for Prince Dvarious and Kayden.
