Summary

Fresh on the heels of Michelle Payne’s historic Melbourne Cup win, comes a blockbuster Australian story about a Queensland girl and the ‘race that stops a nation’ . . .

Tully Athens has always dreamed of following in the footsteps of her hero Michelle Payne. Of living up to the Athens name and becoming the third generation of women from her family to rule the track. But Tully’s never been sure she’s got the nerve, and when her mother is killed in a horse racing accident, her whole world is shattered.

Six months later, in the heat of a Queensland summer, sixteen-year-old Tully is ready to face her fears. But getting back in the saddle leads to a whole lot more than she bargained for, with an out of control crush on the boy from their rival thoroughbred farm – the gorgeous but cocky larrikin Brandon Weston – and a forgotten filly with stardom in her eyes . . .

When faced with the most difficult decision of her life, will Tully choose to train and race her new filly in Melbourne? Or will she sacrifice it all to fight for love on the land that feeds her soul?

It’s only when tragedy rips everything from her that Tully finds a strength and courage she never knew she had, in this action-packed novel of passion, adventure and determination.

RACE GIRL is the highly anticipated third book in The Go Girls Chronicles - bestselling stories of gutsy girls in action sports, by Leigh Hutton!

Author Interview

Welcome, Leigh, to my blog today! Let's dive right in and talk about your newest release...

1. What was your favorite thing about writing this third book in The Go Girls Chronicles?

I adored the research! Spending hours with gorgeous thoroughbreds and getting to know some incredibly inspiring female jockeys.

2. Would you tell readers a little about the heroine and her crush?

3. For us none-horse-race-enthusiasts, what’s the best thing about the races?

The glamour! Excitement! Sounds of the horses, the sheer athleticism of the athletes - both human and equine. Hot guys and girls ;) I can definitely see why they call it the sport of kings.

4. What’s Tully’s schedule like as she trains as a jockey?

Gruelling. Super early mornings, neverending chores, fitness training… I think a huge part of what makes Tully so inspiring as a character is the fact that she's just sixteen and works harder than anyone I've ever met.

5. Do you have a favorite breed of horse?

Thoroughbreds are my all-time favourite. They're so smart, many are incredibly sweet and very intelligent.

6. What are you looking forward to reading this year?

NEW JILLY COOPER! Sorry, VERY excited about that one. And the new Harry Potter.

7. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Hang out with our children and my hubby, ride motorbikes, horses, and I love my day job of relocating and renovating old Queenslander homes.

8. What are you working on next?

I have a few books I'd like to write next. The new Go Girls book is coming along as well as a really intriguing, Caroline Overington-type women's fiction story that I'm really excited about also.

It all sounds great!

Thanks so much for having me! xx

It was my pleasure. :)
