Summary

Ever since the Delonese ice-planet arrived eleven years ago, Sofi's dreams have been vivid. Alien. In a system where Earth's corporations rule in place of governments and the humanoid race orbiting the moon are allies, her only constant has been her younger brother, Shilo. As an online gamer, Sofi battles behind the scenes of Earth's Fantasy Fighting arena where Shilo is forced to compete in a mix of real and virtual blood sport. But when a bomb takes out a quarter of the arena, Sofi's the only one who believes Shilo survived. She has dreams of him. And she's convinced he's been taken to the ice-planet.

Except no one but ambassadors are allowed there.

For Miguel, Earth's charming young playboy, the games are of a different sort. As Ambassador to the Delonese, his career has been built on trading secrets and seduction. Until the Fantasy Fight's bomb goes off. Now the tables have turned and he's a target for blackmail. The game is simple: Help the blackmailers, or lose more than anyone can fathom, or Earth can afford.

My Review

THE EVAPORATION IF SOFI SNOW is a dystopian set story mixed with aliens and brilliant characters that will keep readers turning pages all the way to the cliff-hanger ending. Young Adult Dystopian fans will be happy to dive into this story and root for these characters.

As I mentioned above, the characters were brilliantly done, as well as being quite brilliant themselves. They were filled with raw emotion and depth and I couldn't help falling in love with them. The chemistry leapt off the page, as did other emotions, making this a story that was engaging from beginning to end.

The setting itself is a mix of Hunger Games, War of the Worlds, and The Maze Runner. The outlandish styles and celebrities, the very corporation-like political structure, the arena of gamers competing, and an alien race whose intentions are unclear... Then there are the various characters who have various roles and intentions of their own that are unclear, making it difficult to know who to trust. I did think the ending and aliens needed a little more development, particularly at the end,  but otherwise everything made sense to me.

In the end, was it what I wished for? The story surprised me in places, particularly in regards to the gritiness and harshness of the setting. The twists and turns definitely kept things interesting. However, what I enjoyed most about this story were these characters and how alive they became, pulling me into their stories so that I was cheering them on and holding on to dear life to the end.

Content: Innuendo and suggestive references, violence.

They live in California which is perfect for stalking L.A. bands, Comic-Con, and the ocean.
