Summary
From the USA Today Bestselling author of the Longing for Home series, LOVE REMAINS is a new romance novel set in the beloved world of Hope Springs.
For nearly a year, Tavish O’Connor has carried the crushing weight of his family’s future on his shoulders. He has taken on the care of his youngest brother, Finbarr, who lost his eyesight in a terrible accident. But the lad needs more than Tavish can provide. Finbarr needs hope.
Cecily Attwater specializes in hope. As a tutor to the newly blind, she has dedicated her life to helping others overcome the obstacles she herself has conquered. Her new assignment in a remote corner of Wyoming proves trickier than usual: Finbarr refuses to learn. To make matters worse, his family—and the other Irish townspeople—are less than thrilled to discover an Englishwoman in their haven.
Cecily’s only hope lies in securing the cooperation of her pupil’s brother, Tavish, who happens to be her harshest critic and quite possibly the most frustrating man she’s ever known.
For Finbarr’s sake, Tavish and Cecily forge an uneasy alliance that, as the weeks pass, tiptoes toward something deeper than either dares admit or face, and toward a future they know to be impossible. There can be no hope of a happy outcome for an Irish man and an English woman amongst a people reeling from violence and centuries of hatred between their two homelands.

My Review
LOVE REMAINS is a story of bittersweet dreams, perseverance, struggle, family, and finding love in the most unexpected places. Readers won't be able to resist falling in love with these characters and cheering them on through all the tears, frustration, laughter, and sweet moments. A highly recommended read!
I shouldn't be surprised by how beautifully written and heartbreaking this story was because of the author, but she amazes me how much her characters come alive and how deep their sorrows, hopes, and dreams are felt. I had tears in my eyes before I hit 100 pages in and continued to have moments of tears mixed with laughter and joy through the whole story. Dear, sweet, Cecily... How my heart ached for her. How my heart ached for sweet Emma and Finbar, for Tavish who is so desperately trying to hold his family together and has given up and lost so much, for Ian and Biddy (whose story I just finished before this one in My Dearest Love), and for the rest of the O'Connor clan. In spite of all the heartache, or maybe more so because of it, the successes and the moments of happiness and joy truly shined.
I loved how the romance developed in this story. It was definitely one of my favorite parts. It bloomed slowly, with plenty of banter, but also with these very tender moments where you almost wanted to hold your breath. I also loved that this was so much more than a romance. These characters had dealt with heartbreaking loss and had to learn to grieve and move forward in their lives. There was also the issue of the violent past between the English and the Irish and how Cecily dealt with so much prejudice. There was the whole situation with Finbar's accident and his blindness that was another aspect of the story. I couldn't help but admire Tavish and Cecily for how strong they are in dealing with so much, and all these characters who continued to be challenged to change for the better.
In the end, was it what I wished for? I loved these characters and I loved this story. Every. Single. Page! It was beautiful, heartfelt, with a very touching and perfect ending. I couldn't ask for more. Well, except I'm hoping there is a story in the future for Finbar and Emma... Please.
