Summary

SOME SECRETS ARE MADE TO BE UNCOVERED.

Sixteen-year-old Jamie McGuiness’s sister is dead. Sinking into a deep depression, he frequents the lighthouse where her body was discovered, unaware of the sinister forces surrounding him.

When an angry spirit latches onto Jamie, he’s led down a dark and twisted path, one that uncovers old family secrets, destroying everything Jamie ever believed in.

Caught between the world of the living and the vengeful dead, Jamie fights the pull of the other side. It’s up to Jamie to settle old scores or no one will rest in peace—but, first, he has to survive.

Praise for BENEATH THE LIGHTHOUSE

“Beneath the Lighthouse grabs you by the nether regions from the word go. Then it squeezes. Hard. With a nailed glove … A truly scary ghost story … a powerful ‘coming of age’ drama … a young man growing into adulthood against a backdrop of despair and quite shocking abuse … unpredictable and ever building. Blood and bone revenge, retribution and salvation. The strength of friendship, the power of love. You feel the dread and the underlying fear … not your typical tale. And what a tale it is.” ―EM Faustus

Guest Post:
Ten facts about BENEATH THE LIGHTHOUSE

1. The lighthouse itself is fictional, however the coast line is very real.

2. I based Iliana on real life travelers and stuck to their traditions as much as I could.

3. I based Jamie on my eldest son. How Jamie thinks, acts, talks, handles life is very much on par with my son.

4. When writing some of the domestic abuse, I spoke to survivors of domestic abuse. They helped me portray a better picture of Sonya and her suffering.

5. Father Murphy is loosely based on an old parish priest I once knew.

6. When writing the scenes at school, my eldest daughter read over the passages to approve of the “teen banter”. I wanted it to be as real and authentic as possible.

7. People in small town Ireland really do not meddle in other people’s business and this is seen throughout Beneath the Lighthouse. Unless someone askes for help, no one “sticks their noses” where it isn’t wanted.

8. The first 20,000 words took 48 hours to write, the rest 6 months.

9. The causeway where Emer’s body is discovered is based on the causeway at Giants Causeway. A little farfetched, but I love the ruggedness.

10. The twist in Beneath the Lighthouse was changed many times. I didn’t want to cause offense to readers, but after much pondering, I returned to the original “love triangle”, even though Jamie was never privy to this information.

I don't read too much horror, but this one sounds like it's got plenty of chills. Have you read it or will you be?
