Summary

Love is Never Best Played Out on TV...

Adalyn Stalling's clients convinced her to be a contestant on their reality TV show, The One. Hundreds of thousands of viewers tune in each week to watch a group of bachelorettes try to win one bachelor's heart, and then during the next season, watch bachelors do the same.

Adi appeared on the show twice-once as a potential love-match for the bachelor, once as the bachelorette. As a marketing executive for the firm who handles the show, Adi initially became a part of the cast in order to learn more from the "inside." But as much as she wanted to stay professionally removed, she ended up giving her heart to both Adam and Connor.

Both times, the men broke it off.

Now America's most famous "loser at love," Adalyn is trying to pick up the pieces of her life. Given the media frenzy and the paparazzi that chase her, she's finding it difficult. And just as she learns she may have picked up a stalker, her childhood friend, Chase Rollins, tracks her down at last. He informs her that her beloved grandfather is ailing and needs her help, in more ways than one.

So begins an epic summer in which Adalyn needs to decide where she belongs, what she is supposed to do, and with whom she might find true love at last. All Once Upon a Montana Summer…

Interview

Welcome, Lisa, to my blog and congrats on the release of ONCE UPON A MONTANA SUMMER!

1. Most of your other books are INSPY historical or fantasy… what inspired you to write in this new genre and publish independently?

My very first books were contemporary romance. Lately, I’ve need some “break” reads because life is hard and heavy enough, so I’ve been reading some great romances by Becky Wade, Carla Laureano and Denise Hunter. I’d had this love story in mind for a while, so I thought I’d give it a whirl again.

I went indie because series are a great way to sell as an independent, self-published author, and I could see this as never-ending, given that they’ll all be contemporary romance with a touch of suspense, and set in fantastic locations, but with new characters every time.

2. What inspired this reality TV story?

My young adult daughters dragged me into watching “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” on TV. Now it’s our shared guilty pleasure—and fun to have a reason to get them home at least once a week. But I always want to know what happens to the losers! ONCE UPON A MONTANA SUMMER is about a woman who has lost at love TWICE on one of those shows.

3. Would you tell us a little more about your main characters?

Adalyn Stalling is a smart, young, marketing executive in Chicago who had nothing on her mind besides pursuing her career, until the dating show called “The One” derailed her. Now she’s pretty broken and trying to put her life back together, but it’s not going very well. And she’s picked up a stalker.

Chase Rollins is a wildlife biologist working for the park service in Glacier National Park in Montana. He and Adalyn go way back, having grown up together on the shores of Lake McDonald. Now when her grandfather’s health is in danger and he can’t get ahold of Adi, he goes after her. He’s that kind of guy. 😊

4. If you could sum this book up in a tweet, what would you say?

A heart-broken woman. A stalker. And a hero who is trying to give his girl time to heal and hoping she’ll give love another chance. It all happens ONCE UPON A MONTANA SUMMER.

5. Do you watch any reality TV shows and what do you like or not like about them?

We used to be avid fans of “The Amazing Race.” We loved the exotic locations and the thrill of the challenges/race. We watch quite a few cooking shows, like Next Food Network Star. We’re kind of a competitive family! What I like about “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” is seeing that instant connection that some couples have and how that thrives/suffers in the midst of a fishbowl experience. What I hate about it is watching them kiss so many people and see all those broken hearts. It’s called a reality show but there is really nothing realistic about it. That’s why my tag line for this book is “Love is Never Best Played Out on TV.”

6. When you want to read some good romance, what authors or books do you turn to?

I haven’t read a ton in the last twenty years, but as I said above, I’ve become a fan of Wade, Hunter and Laureano.

7. What do you love most about the holiday season?

A little breathing room from work. A lot of great food. And time to laugh and talk with my loved ones.

8. What are you working on next, and will there be more Indie titles to come?

I have to throw myself back into historical to finish my third book in the Sugar Baron’s Daughters trilogy, SELAH. It’s due in January! Eeep! Then yes, in 2019, there will be 2-3 more Once Upon a Summer titles, probably set in the Caribbean and Italy.

I've read KETURAH and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I'll be reading the other two books as well. And now I have some more Once Upon a Summer titles to look forward to as well. ðŸ˜ƒ Thanks so much of answering my questions!
