Summary

After finally taking down Torres, her mother’s merciless killer, Reagan and Luke have two targets on their backs and are forced into hiding. With new names, looks, and cover stories, they’re living quiet, “safe” lives, but revenge comes at a steep price. Reagan’s actions continue to haunt the pair and put the people they love in danger.

When Reagan discovers her best friend Harper is on the verge of being kidnapped, she and Luke defy Black Angel orders and risk blowing their cover to save their friend. After the rescue attempt goes wrong, the three friends must go on the run with an army of assassins hot on their trail and the list of trust-worthy Black Angels getting smaller and smaller. Will they make it out alive? And at what cost?

Fast-paced and suspenseful, this is the explosive finale of Kristen Orlando’s Black Angel Chronicles series.

Interview

1. For those not familiar with The Black Angel Chronicles, what should they know about the series?

The Black Angel Chronicles follows the life of Reagan Hillis, a teenager who was raised by elite spy parents and has been training her whole life to join the most top secret spy agency in the world: the Black Angels. We see her struggle throughout the series with whether or not she truly wants to live this dangerous, double life. She’s torn between the legacy that’s been forced upon her and the normal life she has always wanted.

2. What do you love the most about these characters?

Oh man! I love my characters so, so much. They’re so real to me. I love Reagan’s fierce loyalty, her strength and her bravery when it comes to doing what is right (even if it means risking her own life). I love her flaws. She goes with her gut and doesn’t always think things through. She pushes people away who try to get closer to her. She has lots of walls. But she’s got the best heart and would do anything for the people she loves. I love the way Luke treats Reagan, even when she’s been not so wonderful to him. He is a sweet, good guy. And I love Harper’s snark. She’s hilarious, sassy and such a great friend. The type of girl you’d totally want as your best friend.

3. Did you find any surprising challenges in writing this third book?

Honestly, the hardest part of the third book for me was the plot. We were going round and around with the plot of this book and I’m so happy with how it came out. By the time I figured out the plot with my editor Kat, I only had three and a half months to write this book. And I had a newborn. And a business! It was a bit nuts. BUT…for me this was the most fun book to write and the easiest of the three to write. I love, love, love this book. It’s so fast paced and fun. I hope the readers are on the edge of their seat. I kind of while I was writing it and I knew what was going to happen!

4. What is your favorite thing about YOU WON’T SEE ME COMING?

I’m so happy to have Harper back in this book! Also, I’m really happy with the ending. I think ending a series is so, so difficult. But once I figured out how I was going to do it, I was really pleased with where it all landed.

5. Would you want to be a spy or special ops? Why or why not?

Ha! No way. I’d be terrible. I hate weapons and my happy place is on the couch, wrapped up in blankets eating ice cream. No spying for me!

6. Did you find any interesting facts while researching the series?

Yes, I did a ton of research for this book and loved learning more about the inner workings of the CIA. I spoke with someone who works for Homeland Security (really…I think he works for the CIA!) and he provided me so much information. Like how this top secret agency would function, who in the government would know about it, how they would get funding, etc. Was super fun creating this world. I hope it feels real to people.

7. Do you have any favorite spy books and/or movies?

Huge fan of all the Jason Bourne movies!

8. What are you working on next?

I am currently working on a stand alone YA book that I’m so, so excited about. A bit of a departure for me. No spies or action! Can’t wait to share more about it down the road.

9. What do you like and/or not like about January?

I like that it’s my husband’s birthday and that it’s been my book birthday month the last three years! But I really, really dislike the cold and snow. So I’m looking forward to my book release and his birthday…but nothing else.

10. What’s one of your goals for 2019?

Writing wise: finish this standalone book. Life wise: I know this is one that everyone says but getting back to working out. I used to be religious about it (would get up early 5 days a week!), but between my toddler, running my company and writing books, exercising has really fallen to the bottom of the priority list!
