Summary

Cayden Rivers wants nothing more than to be normal, but we don’t always get what we want. For years he has been hiding a secret, afraid of being labeled a “freak”. Every day he goes to school, plays football, spends time with his girlfriend, and helps carry his drunken adopted father to bed. Nobody knows the truth about his unnatural speed and strength, including his life-long friend Camilla.

Suddenly, four strangers enter Cayden’s life, and not only do they know his secret, they also have one of their own. With their help, Cayden discovers there is more to his power, something much more dangerous. Something other people will kill to possess.

Camilla wishes her parents were around more. She gets lonely sleeping in her big empty house night after night. Sure, she has all the money she could ever need, but the only person who is there for her is Cayden. He has his own family and a girlfriend who takes up most of his time, so Camilla knows he won’t be there for her forever, and recently he’s been acting really strange.

Will Cayden be able to keep his secret and his friendship with Camilla, or will his new found power destroy everything, including his own life? Switching between Cayden and Camilla's point of view, Twisted will leave you aching for more.

My Review

Hmm. This is kind of a tough review to write. I really liked parts of this and then felt that some parts could have been developed better. I'm going to just go ahead and hash these out.

DISLIKES:

  • Some parts of the story were a little monotonous, such as describing Caydon's day or things he was doing. Some things I felt I just didn't need to know as a reader.
  • Some things didn't make sense to me or I just didn't connect with. I mean, why was Caydon dating who he was? Why did all the boys' adoptive parents all had drinking problems? What did the boys do to earn money? Why didn't Caydon let everyone know about his brothers, especially his own sister, after a while and why didn't the brothers, especially Jay, explain about Caydon sooner?
  • I would have like more character development and less drama.

LIKES:

  • I really liked the whole premise of this story. I liked that there were these "boys" who had powers and that the direction the story took was different than what I've seen before.
  • I really liked some of the characters, specifically Caydon, Camilla, Kylie, Jay, and Dom. Cam was actually my favorite out of all of them, though. Her situation is rough, but she seems to have a decent head on her. I also really liked her relationship with Caydon. I thought I knew where their friendship would eventually lead, but didn't know how it would get there. Throwing Jay into the mix was great!
  • I liked that I didn't exactly know what to expect from Deryk. He pops up here and there initially and I just figured he was probably going to make trouble, but I didn't know what kind or when.
  • I really liked the ending. Of course I can't say what happens, but it was probably my favorite part of the story.

I'd recommend this to those who like to read paranormal YA and don't mind the content.

Content: There was quite a bit of consistent swearing, underage drinking, and some innuendo.

Source: From tour host, which did not affect my review in any way.
