Summary
Being a fairy princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially when you have to choose between saving your people…And killing your girlfriend. Oh, and let’s not forget having to pass summer school, too.
Talk about a hot mess.
First, there’s Rouen, princess of the dark Fae, goth-rock star Euphoria, and soon-to-be senior at Richmond Elite High. Her world is all things ice, snow, and death. And that death will include her own people unless she can defeat her evil father in a Battle of Wits and War and seize the throne. Trouble is, taking the throne is a death sentence for the princess of the fair Fae. In other words, a quick death for Syl, Rouen’s girlfriend.
And that’s so not good.
Second, there’s Syl, princess of the fair Fae, geek girl mathlete, and also an incoming senior. Things aren’t any easier for her. Syl must save her people by battling her old nemesis, the fair Fae prince, and the same rules apply: taking the throne means a death sentence for the other court’s princess, Rouen.
Even worse, Syl and Rouen’s enemies have figured out they’re a couple. Now, both Rouen’s father and Syl’s archenemy are teaming up to ensure neither of them makes it till Midsummer’s Day never mind to the fall semester.
Looks like passing summer school is the least of their worries.
Interview
As INIMICAL is book three in the Circuit Fae series, would you share a little about the series for those not familiar with it?
CIRCUIT FAE is about two girls who are mortal enemies (Fae princesses of opposing courts), who kick butt, take names, and fall in love—all while saving their world from the age-old war that’s torn it apart for centuries.
The Fae in CIRCUIT FAE leverage their magic through technology instead of nature—plus, the heroines are out teen lesbians—which makes the books unique among other stories of the Fae.
What are some of your favorite things about this storybook world?
The possibility and creative landscape is vast, and there’s a lot to draw from. The rich folklore of the Fae is interesting and fun to research. In addition, I’ve made up some of my own custom Fae. Plus, combining Fae magic and technology lets me set the stories in an urban fantasy world that really resonates with readers.
What draws you to write YA stories with fairies?
To me, exploring one’s Fae side is a lot like growing up, figuring out who you are and all the different facets of your identity. It’s about making choices that shape who you are and who you’ll become. So, in a way, becoming Fae is a lot like coming of age, which lends itself really well to the YA genre.
If your protagonist, Rouen, had one piece of advice to give, what would it be?
Be true to yourself and be proud of who you are.
What are some of your favorite fantasy stories (books and/or movies)?
Of course, I’m a huge LOTR and Star Wars fan. I enjoyed how Peter Jackson gave the female characters in LOTR a lot more impact—and a lot more to do—than in Tolkien’s books. And I absolutely LOVED seeing Leia’s journey from princess to general.
One of my favorite books is Mabel the Lovelorn Dwarf by Sherry Peters, which is about a female dwarf on a hilarious quest to…become a movie star and win the man of her dreams, an elf hottie named Aramis. It’s fun and charming and delightful.
What are you working on next?
I’m currently working on the next CIRCUIT FAE title, REKINDLED. An old enemy puts a dark spell on Rouen, making her forget about Syl, their lives, and their love. Syl’s got until the next new moon to break the curse, or Rouen will forget her forever. Plus, to defeat their foe, it’ll take two soul-bound queens whose hearts and minds act as one. Good thing Syl’s not the kind of queen who gives up easily! REKINDLED launches on March 26, 2019.

About the Author
Raised by witches and dragons in the northern wilds, GIE writes angsty urban fantasy YA romance--where girls who are mortal enemies kick butt, take names, and fall in love against all odds.
She enjoys long hikes in the woods (where better to find the fair folk?), believing in fairies (in fact, she's clapping right now), dancing with dark elves (always wear your best shoes), being a self-rescuing princess (hello, black belt!), and writing diverse books about teenage girls finding love, romance, and their own inner power.
She might be planning high tea at the Fae Court right now.
GIE is multi-published, and in her role as an editor has helped hundreds of authors make their dream of being published a reality.
