My Review

STAR WARS GALAXY EDGE: A CRASH OF FATE is an entertaining read for Star Wars and YA SciFi fans. The story is like one storyline in a Star Wars movie, where there is a mission and a motley crew with two key main characters who face danger and opposition. Not everything is revealed, as this story is just a piece of the larger cannon. There is a great lead-in for a second book and more tie-ins to the series, but it can be read on its own and enjoyed by even those not familiar with Star Wars.

This story was so much fun, at least if you’re a SW nerd like me! There’s cantinas with unique clientele, smugglers, mob bosses, the threat of the New Order, danger, humor, friendship, a little action, the rumor of the Resistance, and romance. I loved the characters and the setting on Batuu. The romance was fairly front and center. I could have used a little less romance and more action, but I also felt like this is building up to something and I’m hoping there will be a second book with a more complex plot as these characters’ lives intertwine with others. I also really enjoyed the relationships and the feeling of friendship and family. Think of this story as kind of a young, female Han Solo (Izzy) with a smuggling delivery on the only planet considered somewhat home. Izzy literally runs into her childhood friend. The only one she has left that she really cares for. She finds that there is the possibility of love with him if they can both just survive, make the delivery, and keep others safe while competing with Izzy's former crew.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I really enjoyed this and am now looking for other YA titles in the Star Wars cannon. I'm also hoping for another book with this set of characters. Definitely recommended.

Content: One minor swear word, some strong innuendo, and some heavy making out with some clothing removed.
