Guest Post: Meet Kara's Leading Characters

Serena — ISTJ, healer at heart, and big sister to Hunter, Serena is a wielder and creator of fire. Born a Gifted, she was branded with the X’s on her wrists, marking her “dangerous” because of who she was born. A simple peasant of a poor village, she’s an outcast with few friends.

Serena opened her hand, closing her eyes, allowing the warmth to steal the cold and sadness away for but a moment. Little fires danced over her hand and she blew, sending sparks into the night sky, They showered above her, flashes of light mingling in the black. “I hope ye know I’m waiting for ye,” she whispered. Then she turned back to the cottage and dreamed of home. — The Crownless King

Hunter — ENFJ, guardian, soldier for the king, protector, and little brother to Serena, Hunter was adopted by his mam and da as a baby. His fiery red hair is a rare trait in Sindaleer but that bothers him little. He only cares about keeping his older sister safe along with his friend and king, Milosh.

I’ve always been my sister’s keeper — The Crownless King

Milosh — ISTP, king over Sindaleer and often deemed an outcast for being the bastard son of his father, Milosh longs to bring peace to his country. Though differences should have separated them, he and Hunter have become friends and allies in that race.

“Men!” He called out, his voice ringing in the quiet of the city. “Today, we fight and we will not cower at the sight of death. Nay! We fight for all the good that is left in this world, for the light that still bleeds through the darkness and touches our souls.” — The Crownless King

Sabriel — ISTJ and dark Knight, Sabriel can speak to animals and make them do her will. She spent her childhood climbing the mountains behind her home. Now having pledged her life to the Knight’s cause, she is ready to give all to destroy King Milosh.

“We have tasted death, seen the darkness in ourselves and in the world, but it is up to us whether we submit to it or not.” — The Crownless King

Nick — ENFP and guardian, he was the childhood friend of Sabriel and her companion to climbing the mountains and creating make-believe adventures. Now he and Sabriel stand on opposing sides of the battle.

Tirich — INTJ and leader of the Knights, Tirich has the gift of Cozen, able to slip into peoples’ consciousnesses and turn their will to his own. The inner demons he battles fight for his loyalty, but Sabriel swears she still sees good in him.

Summary

In all the fairy tales the maiden falls in love with the prince...but she has to remember that this isn’t a fairy tale...

Born into a kingdom where those of magical Gifts are rejected, feared, and even killed, Serena has spent her life striving to hide her ability and keep her younger brother safe.

The bastard son of the hated king and father he hardly knows, Prince Milosh is considered an outcast. He never expects to feel anything but contempt for the peasant girl who unexpectedly shows up in his life, forcing him to answer questions he never wished to ask.

When two very different worlds are thrown together under less than desirable circumstances, both hold deep judgement towards the other. But will they learn to see beyond their stations and birth so that they may defeat the coming darkness, or will labels given to them at birth continue to define them?

A heart-stopping tale about the power of human love, and how each of us are never truly alone.
