Summary
Paige Donovan is an ambitious college graduate who aspires to reach the top of the corporate ladder. She’s climbing fast when given the promotion of a lifetime at a prestigious fashion magazine in New York City. Her bright future comes to an unexpected halt after news of her father’s death. She inherits his old cabin in the Colorado Rockies, and just when she thinks her luck couldn’t get any worse, she has a car accident in the mountains and awakens in the small, remote community of Black River.
Soon, she’s engulfed in the mystical world of Varulv---wolves descended from 13th century Scandinavia and blessed by Norse gods with the ability to appear human. Paige is desperate to return home, but never expects to fall for her rescuer, Riley Gray, a charming young werewolf from England who offers her an alternate future with his pack.
Now, she must choose between the career she’s always wanted and the love she’s always dreamed.
Guest Post: The History of Varulv
Riley Gray is the hero in my paranormal romance novel The
Howling Heart, and is somewhat of a storyteller. I thought it would be fun to
quote him when he shared the magical story of his werewolf ancestry with Paige,
the love of his life and heroine in the book. The history has been passed down
from generation to generation. No one actually knows if it’s true or 100%
accurate, and no one has actually spoken to the gods, but it’s what most of Riley’s
kind choose to believe.
“During the
thirteenth century in Scandinavia, a lone wolf—later
known as Erik Ulfr—fell
in love with a young Viking woman named Anya. One day, a hunter's trap injured
him. As he lay for days, suffering from his wounds and close to starvation,
Anya found him while gathering firewood in the forest. She freed him and took
him home with her to nurse him back to health. After spending months together,
they formed a bond, and she named him Erik. When her father returned from a
raid, she sent Erik away in fear her father would kill him. Back in the forest,
Máni—the
Norse god of the moon—noticed
his spirit was in misery. Erik told him he was in love with Anya and wished to
be with her, but he couldn't because he was a wolf and she was human. Máni
promised to help him, so he spoke to Freya—the
goddess of love—about
Erik's wish. She agreed to help, and they blessed Erik with the ability to
shapeshift into a human. The next day, Anya bid farewell to her father as he
set off on a hunting trip. She went inside her home but heard a noise outside
the door. Thinking her father had forgotten something, she walked back outside,
only to see a naked, young man standing there. She was frightened, and when she
asked his name, the man revealed his glowing, wolf eyes and spoke the name
“Erik”. He had returned to her in his human form and claimed her as his mate.
They eventually had ten children, and he and his descendants were forever known
as Varulv.”
Paige’s reaction to Riley’s ancestral story might mirror
the expression on your face right now. You’ll have to read the book to find out
though. What’s funny to me now that I think about it, is Paige had a few
opportunities to validate the truth behind Varulv’s
history (I won’t reveal how!) but she had direr questions to ask at the time.
About the Author
April Bostic is a New Jersey-based, Adult Romance author who enjoys unleashing her creativity and letting her imagination run wild. Her love of romance books inspired her to become not just a reader, but also a writer. In December 2008, she self-published her first novel, a contemporary romance with a supernatural twist entitled A Rose to the Fallen.
Her first short story, Right Here, Right Now, released in January 2012, is an erotic romance with a dash of S&M. The following year, she released two more short stories--a romantic urban fantasy inspired by the Greek myth of Eros and Psyche entitled Eros, My Love, and a sexy romantic comedy entitled Love Addiction.
After five years, she released her second novel, The Howling Heart, a paranormal romance that delves into the mystical world of werewolves and Norse gods. To end her busiest year in publishing, April also released her fourth short story in December 2013, a historical paranormal romance entitled A Dark Scandal.
