Summary

Best friends Kayla Falk, an engineering student, and Olivia Bellamy, who is studying nursing, are nearing the end of their college career when terrorists attack their university. A mysterious man from the United States government, Mr. Hightower, sees their potential and attempts to recruit Kayla and Olivia for a program to take on ISIS. After several months of hard training, the two women are dropped into Al-Raqqah, the capital of ISIS, in Syria. Once there, they must blend in with the locals as they strike from the shadows to kill ISIS leaders, destroy their facilities, and free captives. As Americans deep within enemy territory, they know that they will be killed if discovered. As women, they also know that they would suffer before death. Walking the line between vengeance and justice strains their relationship. As they work to resolve their differences, the symphony of brutality around them ultimately pushes them closer together and forges them into the warriors that they were meant to become.

Kayla's & Olivia's Top Ten Seven Handy Engineering & Nursing Skills

I’m not sure I have a full top ten. However, there are a few times when Kayla’s and Olivia’s studies come in handy in unexpected ways. Here are some examples:

1. Kayla knows how to pick locks, which she uses a number of times while on her mission to get both into and out of trouble.
2. Early in the novel, Kayla uses her knowledge of chemistry to make some makeshift grenades from cleaning supplies.
3. Later, Kayla figures out how to disable some enemy vehicles to make them vulnerable to attack.
4. For Olivia, early on she uses her nursing skills to tend to wounded students from the initial attack on the university.
5. Later, Olivia is shot in the leg and uses her skills to operate on herself to remove the bullet.
6. With both her anatomical knowledge and her martial arts skills, Olivia knows where to hit somebody to make it count.
7. While not a specific example, what Kayla and Olivia studied in college also relates to their personalities and how they approach things. Kayla is very analytical by nature, while Olivia is more outgoing and in tune with how people around her are feeling.
