Note from the Author

Many thanks for participating in my book tour! For readers who are new to me, I write historical romances set in gilded age America. These are sprawling stories always deeply rooted in a real historic event, with plenty of twists, mysteries, and a healthy dose of romance (usually my favorite part!)

A Desperate Hope is the 3rd and final book in the Empire State series. Please don’t worry if you haven’t read the first two books. I wrote each novel to stand on its own, and it’s always helpful to have bloggers who are new to the series attest if it can be enjoyed on its own.

The events in the book were inspired by true events when the government seized thousands of homes in upstate New York to build a massive water reservoir that would service the people of Manhattan. Some of these dispossessed homeowners left, but some fought. This novel is about characters who chose to stay and fight for their homes. It’s also a story of star-crossed lovers who were separated years earlier. Both Alex and Eloise carry wounds from their long-ago romance, and that is a constant theme in the book.

Many thanks for participating in this blog tour, and don’t hesitate to swing by my Facebook page to say hello!

A Desperate Hope
(Empire State #3)
By Elizabeth Camden
Christian Historical Romance
Paperback & ebook, 352 Pages
February 5th 2019 by Bethany House Publishers

Eloise Drake's prim demeanor hides the turbulent past she believes is finally behind her. A mathematical genius, she's now a successful accountant for the largest engineering project in 1908 New York. But to her dismay, her new position puts her back in the path of the man responsible for her deepest heartbreak.

Alex Duval is the mayor of a town about to be wiped off the map. The state plans to flood the entire valley where his town sits in order to build a new reservoir, and Alex is stunned to discover the woman he once loved on the team charged with the demolition. With his world crumbling around him, Alex devises a risky plan to save his town--but he needs Eloise's help to succeed.

Alex is determined to win back the woman he thought he'd lost forever, but even their combined ingenuity may not be enough to overcome the odds against them.
