Summary

Regina Beswick was born to be a princess.

But she’s content to be a small-town girl, running a classic auto restoration shop, unaware a secret destiny awaits her. One that will leap from the pages of her grandmother’s hand-painted book of fairytales.

Tanner Burkhardt is the stoic Minister of Culture for the Grand Duchy of Hessenberg. When he is tasked to retrieve the long-lost princess, he must overcome his fear of failure in order to secure his nation’s future—and his own.

Yet lurking in the political shadows is a fierce opponent with sinister plans to abolish the throne forever. Overwhelmed with opposition, Regina must decide if she’s destined to restore old cars or an ancient nation. Together—with a little divine intervention—Regina and Tanner discover the truth of her heritage and the healing power of true love.

My Review

I enjoyed the first book in this series, Once Upon a Prince, and so I was really looking forward to reading Princess Ever After. I ended up enjoying this one even more!

I don't know what it is about loving present-day princess stories, but I just do. Maybe it's the dashing gentleman, especially when he's got an accent. It could be the star-crossed lovers aspect that is normally always present or the almost insurmountable odds against things turning out. Maybe it is just frankly that things always end in a happily-ever-after for the two main characters. It's probably all of these, but Princess Ever After didn't disappoint. It gave me all of these. There were plenty of complications and difficulties for the princess of this story, Regina or "Reg" or "Reggie" as she is normally called. There is a dashing hero in Tanner Burkhardt. There is an aspect of star-crossed love, although this time the hero isn't the prince and Cinderella is a princess in disguise.

It was really fun getting to know these characters! Regina didn't always pull through or face her challenges straight on as I wanted her to. She has a tendency to run away. Tanner was pretty brave and I loved how he reveals how he feels regardless if Reggie reciprocates his feelings. Then we get to meet the MCs from the first book and there are other side characters that add some more character to the story. What I have always enjoyed about Rachel's books is that she lets her characters be human and face human challenges. Even though I didn't always agree with Regina, she did act how we probably would if something like this happened to us.

The Christian aspect of the story is fairly strong, but not preachy at all. It's more just matter-of-fact in its placement. I also liked how some of it was just how the characters felt when they were seeking an answer or felt in a specific place.

Will I be reading the next book in this series? For sure. This book kept me smiling, sighing, and I had to get to the end to see how things turned out. I just love these type of feel-good, happily-ever-after, sweet romance books! This definitely hit the spot for me!
