Summary

The princess didn't expect to fall in love--with her nemesis.

Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee from his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king's servitude.

Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.

Sepora's gift could save Tarik's kingdom from the Quiet Plague. But should she trust her growing feelings for her nemesis, or should she hide her gifts at all costs?

My Review

NEMESIS was about a princess who leaves her land to save another and loses a part of herself in doing so. It was a perfectly woven tale with danger, deception, and a star-crossed romance. Highly recommended for YA fantasy fans!

I loved this story! Loved it! I loved Sepora and the strong heroine she is. I loved that her journey wasn't easy because she was naive and the story shows how her character evolves as it goes. I loved her feistiness and how she still acted as a princess - she couldn't just bury who she was. I loved Tarik and that he was confident and arrogant even (as he should be as king), but also that he was kind, smart, and aware of his duty. I especially loved their banter and the chemistry that you could feel jump off the pages as their relationship and then romance slowly develops. There were also a handful of other characters who played some fun roles and could have been developed a little more, but still played their parts well.

The plot of the story kept me engaged the whole way through. It was very evenly paced with a couple of twists as well as a few moving parts. There were plenty of hints to what might happen in the following books, leaving quite a few questions. I about died at the end as I tried to forward the pages on my Kindle to only realize it wouldn't turn to the next page because it was at the end! Just torture!! Obviously, book two can't come too soon!

Here's a line that I felt was rather poignant:
It is impossible to make you stay, yet impossible to let you go.

In the end, was it what I wished for? Yes! This definitely met, if not exceeded, my expectations!

Content: Some innuendo and references to concubines.
