My Review

THE SECOND SEASON was an enjoyable and sweet historical romance. It was unique in that there weren't necessarily the usual suitors nor the usual plot, which made for an engaging story. Basically, it was a light historical romance with a little danger and an unconventional heroine thrown in.

Caroline really grew on me as the story unfolded. She does not want to give in to her matchmaking mother. She also is trying to protect her older sister from a terrible match while fighting a curiosity with a shoemaker and trying to decide if a peer of the ton is really right for her. There were some humorous  parts along with some sweet moments with her sister, but I especially loved some swoon-worthy moments with a particular gentleman even when they were contained in meaningful looks or gestures.

The story overall was entertaining. I'm not a big fan of love triangles and there was a slight one or at least the slight development of one here. It was tolerable and played a part in how things worked out. I especially loved Caroline's father who really came alive towards the end of the story. It was interesting having flashbacks to her parents' courtship and relationship and seeing how that influenced the story as well. I did want a little more development with some of the characters and parts of the story and some things I wanted worked out over more time, but those would be my only complaints. And then there was the ending... It was sweet and just topped this story off perfectly.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I really didn't know what to expect from this story, but it turned out to be quite enjoyable. I especially loved that I felt content at the end with a smile on my face.

Content: Some innuendo, but clean.
