Summary

Bree Mercer is an ambitious sports reporter who has risen through the ranks to land her dream job. Basking in the sun, sea, and seriously cute guys in her new singles ward, things couldn't be better. That is, until she's assigned to write a feature on the one person she can't stand—professional beach volleyball player Kade Townsend. A typical cocky athlete, Kade's previous attempt to woo her was foiled by Bree's hard-and-fast rule: don't date athletes. Ever.

Kade loathes the media, and for good reason: when his hard-partying ways were exposed by a reporter who claimed to be his friend, the scandal rocked his entire family. Now reformed, Kade has put his life back together, and he has no interest in talking to reporters—least of all Bree Mercer. But when the pair is thrown together despite their best efforts, their chemistry is undeniable. They can't seem to put the brakes on their feelings—until their connection threatens Bree's reputation and Kade's hard-won redemption. Now they must decide if there is a place for love in their plans for the future.

My Review

PERFECT SET is a story with a strong heroine, who works in a challenging field, and is faced with a guy who breaks her rules. It's an enjoyable story with strong friendships, humor, good character development, a complex family dynamic, sweet romance, and some beach volleyball. Recommended to LDS and sweet romance readers.

I love these characters! Bree is confident, smart, and loves doing what she does even though it's a constant battle to succeed in such a heavily dominated man's field. I also love that she doesn't easily back down and she thinks before she acts or reacts (at least most of the time). I love her career and all the sports info. I also love that she is so tight with one of her friends and with her brother. Their talks and him trying to give her counseling advice are so much fun! I also really loved Kade. I love that he's made some changes and tries to prevent his bad choices from negatively affecting others. I love that he plays pro beach volleyball (a sport our family loves) and that he might come off as arrogant, but he's actually a really cool guy with his own vulnerabilities just like anybody else. I really enjoyed the back and forth of Bree's and Kade's relationship. They have some great moments. The romance had some great chemistry and was super sweet. Even though the characters are LDS, the religious element is low key, making this a story that anyone who enjoys sweet romance would enjoy.

I had one thing that rubbed me just a little bit wrong. I didn't like how easily one of Bree's roommates got off the hook for something damaging that she did. I felt like the consequences should have been a little stronger or stretched out more, especially considering how difficult it was for Bree to forgive some others.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I really enjoyed reading this! I loved the characters and from page one was pulled into this story through to the very end. If you like this author's other books, LDS romance or sweet romance, grab this one!
