Summary

Presley DeGraff is a young woman on the run. With nothing but the clothes on her back, her escape from the ruthless manipulations of her former fiancé leaves her with little time to hide. There is only one person to whom she can turn, only one place she may be safe . . .

Haggerty, Georgia, is known for its Southern hospitality and quirky inhabitants. For Presley, her Aunt Violet's home in the tiny town is a lifesaving haven. Her aunt, along with a cast of delightful friends and neighbors, warmly welcomes her. For the first time in so long, she feels hope a hope that hinges on hiding her past. But the dreams of solitude that she had envisioned quickly fade when a disturbing discovery is made in her aunt's backyard: a human skeleton. At the first hint of crime, Haggerty's own amateur sleuth, Miss Eugenia, is on the case. Along with handsome Haggerty resident Mac and sprightly ninety-nine-year-old Loralee, Presley is quickly drawn into a mystery spanning generations of Haggerty's history. But when news coverage of the investigation digs up Presley's own secrets, it s up to her new friends to come to her aid, by whatever means necessary.

My Review

PUZZLE PIECES starts off with a woman, Presley, running to safety leaving behind danger and a mystery. Presley starts over in a family friend's small town, a town that definitely has plenty of charm and character, especially in some of its residents. For those who are familiar with the series, the characters are old friends. For newcomers, the characters' personalities and quirks come across strong enough that this story also works on its own. It was an enjoyable cozy mystery with a hint of mystery, some danger, and a little bit of romance.

The story moved along at a steady, but slow pace. I would have liked a little more excitement, but for a cozy mystery it suited. The characters were stock full of colorful personality. There were the usual busybodies, the ladies who know everything and everyone, and some good descent folks that create a welcoming and charming place to call home. I loved Mac with his quiet confidence, loyalty, charm, and dependability. I also liked Presley even though I wanted her to have a stronger backbone sometimes.

I'd recommend PUZZLE PIECES to readers who enjoy cozy mysteries with a touch of suspense.

About the Author

BetsyBrannonGreenblk.jpgIf you're not familiar with my books, I write mystery-suspense novels. I am LDS (Mormon) and so are some of my characters, but I have loyal readers from many different faiths. My goal is to engage the reader in my books. I want to make them laugh and cry and worry and dread the end.

My most popular series is set in the fictional town of Haggerty, Georgia - which is loosely based on my grandparents' hometown of Headland, Alabama (the most wonderful place on earth). I also have the Duty Series, the Eureka Series, and the Kennedy Killingsworth Series. Each book has an ample supply of romance, suspense, Southern hospitality and even recipies! To see the publication order please check out the LDS Books page.

I also have a new self-published book called Pivot Point. It is available through my website and on amazon.com (there is also aKindle version) and in some LDS bookstores. You can read a brief description to the right. If you'd like to read an excerpt from the first chapter, go to my Self-Published Books page.
