Summary

Willow Lamott’s best friend is a murderer, and no one in the small town of Gilt Hollow will let her forget it. For four long years, she’s tried to fade into the background—but none of that matters when Ashton Keller comes striding into school, fresh out of juvie and fueled by revenge. The moment their eyes meet, Willow no longer feels invisible. Drawn to the vulnerability behind Ashton’s mask of rage, she sinks deeper into his sinister world and begins to question whether he’s a villain, a savior, or both.

Ashton thought he wanted vengeance, until Willow reminded him what he’d been missing. Now he longs to clear his name and become the person she sees in him. But the closer they get to uncovering the truth, the darker the secrets become, and Ashton fears his return to Gilt Hollow will destroy everyone he loves, especially the girl he left behind.

My Review

GILT HOLLOW is a story about friendship and redemption for a teen wrongly accused of murder. Readers can expect to enjoy the small-town setting,  suspenseful feel, great dialogue, and some serious chemistry. A great read for those who enjoy mystery, suspense with some sweet moments and romance mixed in!

I loved these characters! Willow and Ashton both have had to deal with the situation in different, but no less traumatizing, ways. I liked that everything wasn't easy for them because it came across as authentic, especially in the beginning when they're unsure of where they stand with each other. Their personalities are so opposite, but yet they compliment each other so well. I especially loved their banter! It was so fun!! Then there was also the sizzling chemistry. I also really liked all the side characters, particularly Willow's friend Lisa and Willow's mom.

I appreciated how well the story was balanced. It doesn't feel overly heavy even though you can feel a constant undercurrent of danger. There was humor, friendship, family, great dialogue, and romance, balanced with information about the murder, trying to figure out who was the villain, and then the constant danger Wil and Ash are in.

I would have liked to have had a little more development in some areas. I also found that a few things didn't quite work for me, but they were minimal.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, but it ended up being a very engrossing read. I'm looking forward to seeing what the author will be releasing next!

Content: Some innuendo and violence.
