Note from the Author

Welcome back to Shores of Indian Lake series! For those of you who haven’t visited my series yet or known my characters, I think you’ll love this story of Beatrice Wilcox and Rand Nelson equally as all the other Heartwarming people of Indian Lake.

This story pulls you into the action with that first sniff of smoke from a forest fire. Beatrice is the owner of a low-tech kids summer camp, which she’s invested every last dime of her small inheritance and savings to refurbish. Beatrice adores children and it shows in the big hearted love she gives to her camp kids. Most of the kids come from out of town and stay for weeks on end and most of the kids have some kind of kind of physical disorder, though non are “disabled”. Beatrice also takes in foster kids who haven’t been placed with foster parents.

And that’s where our story takes off. Chris Dunning, 10 , and his brother Eli, 8, are foster care kids who are new to the overwhelmed state foster child system. Their father has just been sentenced to prison for dealing drugs and their mother has abandoned them. They have no one to love them.

The boys have had little in their lives and had never had a s’more until Beatrice treats the camp kids to s’mores by the campfire one night. Wanting more of the gooey treats the boys sneak off to the woods with stolen chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers. The very dry woods offers up perfect kindling for a fire that rages out of control.

Beatrice’s camp is across the country road from the forest , but she’s the first to smell the smoke and she calls 911. As the counselors round up the camp kids to drive them to town to safety, Beatrice sees Eli standing in the middle of the flames across the road, crying. As the fire trucks roll up the road, Beatrice runs INTO the forest to save Eli. Rand Nelson, smokejumper and firefighter, brakes his truck in time to see Beatrice running into the forest fire.

Rand must now saw Beatrice, Eli and find the missing brother, Chris.

As action packed as this beginning is, the story continues to heat up when Rand’s forensics team discovers that Beatrice must bring the camp up to new county codes. The cost of the projects is high and enough to shut down Beatrice’s beloved camp for good.

The sparring and distrust between Beatrice and Rand over the rest of summer, along with their growing love and concern for Eli and Chris is the kind of realistic, heartwarming stories you have come to love. I hope you enjoy RESCUED BY THE FIREFIGHTER and will look for my next book in the series, HERS TO PROTECT due out in MAY, 2019.
