Summary

DIVERGENT meets OCEAN’S EIGHT in this urban fantasy heist!

On my seventeenth birthday, I wake up in the hospital to find I just survived a sketchy but terrible accident. My parents stand by my bedside—both are beautiful, wealthy, and super-nice. They tell me that once I leave the hospital, I’ll attend the prestigious ECHO Academy, where I’ll churn out equations for the government along with my mega-smart peers.

So, I’m living the perfect life.

Then why does everything feel all wrong?

My parents, my house and even ECHO Academy…none of it fits. Plus, what’s up with Thorne, my brooding yet yummy classmate who keeps telling me I need to remember my true past, which seems to have included a lot of us kissing? That’s one thing I’d really like to remember, except for the fact that I’m pretty sure Thorne is hiding a ton of nasty secrets of his own, including the fact that he may not be from this world. But considering how my own past seems alien to me, it’s not like I can judge. Plus, Thorne has dimples. That’s a problem.

And worst of all, why does it feel so yucky to work on these calculations for the government? It’s all supposed to be part of ECHO, but my heart tells me that I’m helping something truly terrible come to pass. Thorne seems to think that kissing him again will release my real memories.

Maybe it’s time to pucker up.

Author Interview

Would you tell us a little about what inspired you to write ALIEN MINDS?

I’m a wee bit obsessed with quantum science and technology. Fact: cell phones work by leveraging unused bandwidth in parallel dimensions. Another fact: a real scientist would barf at how I described that, but the core idea is true. Which is how I got to wondering: there must be a universe of universes. What does that look like? Who’s running the show? And the Dimension Drift series was born.

What should we know about your main character?

Meimi Archer and Thorne Oxblood are the two main characters for this series. What I like about them both is that they’re flawed … and they know it. Meimi has few social skills and Thorne is the weak prince in his family. Still, they both work hard to contribute. Meimi supports her mother and Thorne strives to master his limited powers.

What do you love the most about this story?

I loved taking the all-girl chick heist format from film (Ocean’s Eight) and bringing it to the page. I’m all about writing new things and I think ALIEN MINDS is a first in this way!

How did writing ALIEN MINDS challenge you?

Translating the film format of a heist to the written page was a BITCH. There are certain beats you have to hit, like the scene where some naysayer says ‘this is impossible’ and spells out why. But it’s not a straight pull from a movie. Novels bring you right inside someone’s head. So I needed to follow a new format while creating that inner life as well. I literally made myself sick writing this book, but I’m super happy with the result.

Do you have any specific snacks you eat or music you listen to when you write?

I down a TON of mocha lattes from Starbucks.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Keep writing. The stories in your heart can only be brought to life by your pen.

What 2019 book(s) are you anticipating reading this year?

Gah. I’m on a total dry patch when it comes to reading. As a rule, I never discuss any books unless I can give them a glowing 5-star review (anything else is bad karma). Alas, I don’t have anything I’m super-pumped about right now!

What are you working on next?

Next up is ZINNIA, which is book 3 in the Angelbound Offspring series. It’s a paranormal adventure romance with dragons!

So that’s all for this time—I enjoyed answering these questions and hope to return on a future tour!

About the Author

Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too.

Christina graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with BA’s in English along with Television, Radio, and Film Production. She lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.
