Summary
Audrey Scott might be a children’s librarian, but that isn’t all she can do. She has to figure out who really killed Gretchen’s step-father, a universally hated federal judge.
With a not small list of potential people the judge has wronged, Audrey and her friends have a rough ride ahead of them trying to decide who had a motive, means, and opportunity to put the judge in an early grave. With the help of Derek Hennessy, erstwhile enemy turned very good friend, and her normal crew of cohorts, Audrey won’t stop until the threat no longer looms.
Excerpt
The door opened again, and I turned to see Kyle jog in. “Hey, Aud, do you…” He stopped. The question. All movement. I wasn’t sure he was even breathing. He stared at Jane far longer than was polite. And then longer than was normal. Finally, he snapped his jaw shut. “Hi.”
She smiled at him immediately, revealing two adorable dimples. She giggled, and it wasn’t manufactured. I could tell she was amused by Kyle’s behavior. For the first time, some of the tension drained from her frame. Anyone who spotted the goodness in unassuming Kyle so quickly was okay in my book. Whatever was between her and Alex was none of my business. “Hi.”
He shook his head, finally snapping out of his fugue caused by, I was going to guess, her excessive level of hotness. “I’m Kyle. You must be Jane?”
She nodded, biting her bottom lip slightly, a hint of a smile still on her mouth. “Lovely to meet you, Kyle.”
There was nothing but sincerity in her words. They shook hands just a hint longer than was appropriate, and Kyle flushed slightly. When their hands parted, I saw Kyle flex his fingers.
