Summary

When baker Penelope Quinn steps in to help her brother’s family through a medical crisis, she’s forced into close proximity with charming Air Force fighter pilot Eli Price.

Penelope has one iron-clad dating rule—she does not date airmen. Months ago, she relaxed her rule with Eli and immediately lived to regret it. After a long deployment, he’s now back in Misty River and, to her dismay, she finds him just as tempting as always.

Eli’s spent months thinking about funny, feisty, creative Penelope. He once leveraged his focus and drive to become a pilot, his childhood dream. Now he's set on leveraging that same focus and drive in order to convince Penelope to give him one more chance.

This romantic prequel novella introduces readers to the quaint mountain town of Misty River and a brand-new series from Christy-winning author Becky Wade!

My Review

TAKE A CHANCE ON ME is a sweet inspirational novella prequel that feels like a full novel because it was so well written. The characters are complex and easy to fall in love with. The story is genuine, heartfelt, and sweet, with tension and challenges that make for a fantastic read. Highly recommended!

I loved these characters and this story! It was so easy to dive in and I didn't stop reading until the end, and not even then as I read the sneak peek that follows too. (And just a note that I shouldn't have read the sneak peek of STAY WITH ME because now I'm completely frustrated that I can't finish it! May can not come too soon!!!) I could feel the chemistry between Penelope and Eli. I loved their banter and their friendship. I loved Eli's gestures of love after listening to Penelope's concerns and the honesty and vulnerability that took them both. If all relationships were founded so well there would be a lot more happy marriages in the world. I also loved some timely advice that Penelope received:

"I sometimes think that when God hears us making statements about our future plans, what we will and will not do, He laughs. Then He rubs his hands together and says, 'We'll see about that.'"
"Gah."
"There's a verse . . . I wish I could remember it exactly. But, to paraphrase, it basically says that we can make plans, but it's the Lord who will determine our steps."

". . . I'd suggest you do what your heart tells you to do, then let God determine your steps."

. . . love isn't always rosy. Love demands effort. Sometimes it's scary. The hardships that come with love will refine you with painful fire. But if you let them, the difficulties can also deepen love.

The one thing that the shorter length, this being a novella, didn't allow was a better feel for the town the story takes place in and maybe a more extended ending to Penelope's and Eli's story. However, I do hope they'll make an appearance at some point in the series so I can know how everything turns out. I also expect for the town to come alive more in the full-length novels.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I adored this story so much! Wade is an excellent writer and I love how she weaves sweet and inspirational moments throughout the story. I never felt like I was being told a lesson or forced to see a point she was trying to make. Instead I felt like I was lightly guided and got these moments and words of wisdom that I connected with and felt in my heart. And these moments weren't all about faith. In this story it was also about relationships and love. If you're a fan of sweet contemporary romance in general, inspirational romance or the author this is definitely a must read! If you haven't read this author before, this is a great place to start!
