Cupcakery-Blog-Banner

Welcome to my tour stop for Cupcakery! I was hoping to actually get to make some of these sweet-looking things, but I didn't actually get my copy in time. There was a shipping mix-up and so I just received an electronic copy yesterday, which did allow me to read through everything and look at all the tips and recipes, thank goodness, but not get to bake anything. I will have to own a copy soon because I loved what I saw. Moving on... I have all the usual info below, as well as a review, and don't forget to enter the awesome giveaway...

My Review

My first and last impression of Cupcakery is honestly that it is super yummy, bright, and very fun. I shouldn't leave out sweet as well, right? If you are like me and enjoy playing around in the kitchen with baking and desserts, as well as decorating them, then this is the perfect book for you. I honestly loved scrolling through the pages and trying to absorb all the information, tips, and tricks.

Let's talk a little about the first section of the book, Cupcakes 101. So much fabulous information! Like freezing. It never occurred to me that I could make cupcakes ahead and freeze them un-frosted, but it would work and it's a great idea. I also loved the suggestion to use tags for cupcakes so that you can note what flavor they are and if there are any ingredients for those with allergies to look out for. There are so many great tips! I could go on and on. They take up a good portion of the book, over 30 pages, and it's well worth reading through.

The following two sections are all about the recipes: Everyday Occasions and Seasonal Celebrations. I just have to make note here that I especially approve of a few recipes that are labeled for consumption for breakfast. I think my kids would heartily second that as well. There are loads of recipes here. There are different flavors found among the different batters, in frosting, and in the various toppings. Just a ton of variety and I didn't' really see a single cupcake that wouldn't be appealing. I also really appreciated that every single recipe included a picture, which is a huge deal for me.

My only complaint would be that the base of every recipe is a cake mix. That isn't terrible and is what I would normally use, but I don't always have them on hand or have time to run to the store to get one. For convenience it would have been nice if the book would have also included basic cake recipes from scratch that could be used in place of the mixes for those times. I did like that she made the batter her own by adding to the mixes and increasing the flavor and moisture.

If you enjoy making sweet, cute, creative, and delicious cupcakes I would definitely recommend Cupcakery. I plan on using the tips, recipes, and decorating instructions for years to come.

A Peak Inside

I was only going to show a one or two of these images from some of the recipes you can find inside Cupcakery provided by the author, but then I just couldn't decide (believe it or not I didn't choose all of them). Just look at these! Don't they just look super yummy and fun?!!! So, you get six.  Enjoy. I hope your mouth waters. Just a little. ;)

You can find a tutorial for the Snow Cone Cupcake on Toni's blog here and plenty of other fun cupcake-ness and other yummy things there as well.

  3. I love baking cupcakes to spoil my co-workers from time-to-time. I like the idea of a cake mix base. That would give me opportunities to make cupcakes more often to take to work. :)

My oldest daughter is getting married. This would be great for her shower and even the wedding. Daughter #2 is standing up at the weddings of two couples she's good friends with (she's "best man" for one of them). Both couples are in the position where they won't be having a lot of funds for their weddings, so I'd love to help by making things for their showers and weddings.

  8. There is inspiration in every day for a beautiful and delicious cupcake. I really don't have to have a reason. I will bring fun desserts to a friends house if I go to visit. I think cupcakes are my favorite treat - more for the frosting than anything else. :) I love frosting!

This sounds great! I love to cook but baking is not my forte. I tend to burn things. It would be so nice if my creations came out looking this good!

  10. Yum, Yum, and Yum. I totally agree about not being able to pass up cup cake in a bakery. I do make them myself and can do some bool toppings, but not much. It's just fun! This book sounds awesome! Great review Tressa :)
