Summary

Starting over…again

It seems a lifetime ago that Brett Ackerman wanted to share his life with Ella Wales. He really believed he could put his abusive family history behind him…until he realized it would always be part of him. Then he pushed her away. Hard.

Now Ella's back as part of the High Risk Team at The Lemonade Stand, the unique women's shelter Brett founded. And she needs his help with a family crisis. But even now, Brett can't admit he still loves her. Until one night of passion with Ella turns Brett into the one thing he fears the most—a father.

Tara's Rose

I’ve recently discovered that I have an affinity with plants. I sat down to write the first book in the Where Secrets Are Safe series, Wife By Design, and the hero shows up at The Lemonade Stand – the unique women’s shelter around which the series is revolving – as a landscaper. Kind of threw me for a loop. I know very little about landscaping. I tried to convince him he was something else. He kept coming back as a landscaper. So I did some research. Throughout the entire writing of the book. My hero was designing a Garden of Renewal and as I wrote, I wanted one. Badly. I wanted a place where I could go sit and be surrounded by nature, by beautiful plants and find serenity.

Lantana at Night

I live in a neighborhood. With a not huge yard. It’s Arizona. Unless you want to live in the desert with the added joy of scorpions and rattlesnakes as roommates, you pretty much have to live in a neighborhood with a not huge lot. No matter the size of your house.

My Geranium
I’ve also never been one to grow anything successfully. So I mostly haven’t tried. But I really wanted my own ‘Garden of Renewal’. So I bought a plant. Six of them actually. Lantana. I’d heard it was pretty much impossible to kill and I loved the golden orange-red flower. I found an older fountain. Painted it. I’m blessed to have a husband who’s good with all manly things and he gave me underground electric from my fountain to the barn where the on off switch lives. He also gave me underground irrigation. I designed my little garden. Put in my six plants – all the same kind. I added a special plaster fisherman who has emotional meaning to me. And a little garden flag just because it made me smile when I saw it. That was almost a year ago. My plants were eaten by bunnies. Down to the dirt. If I looked carefully I saw nubs in the dirt. Maybe. But I persevered. I kept hoping. Said a little prayer that if the bunnies would let my plants get big enough to survive, I’d share the bottom flowers with them and be happy with the tops for my viewing pleasure. Last month, when the plants topped the bottom of the fountain – and a two foot space around it as well – my husband installed electric landscape lighting for me.

I’ve added Bougainvillea to my oasis. Two rose bushes that are both blooming this week. Geraniums.  And most recently, to the shepherd’s hook out at the end of our driveway, a hanging plant.

Being at The Lemonade Stand, where secrets are safe, is very good for me! The Good Father is book six in this series. Brett Ackerman founded The Lemonade Stand, but doesn’t trust it with his secrets. Still, he wants everyone to find acceptance, support, and hopefully happiness and hope here, too. Whether for one book, or the nine so far in the works, I hope you’ll give us a try.

  1. This sounds good...but book 6. I don't know if I am ready for a six book commitment. I have so many books to read already
