The trouble is, when you run from your problems, you often find out your biggest obstacle is along for the trip–it's you! Reid Carrington realizes that when he finds Jennifer and recognizes the quiet desperation in her eyes. Can he save someone who doesn't want to be saved? My Review
First and foremost, I am so pleased that the author, Helen Conrad, is redoing her Destiny Bay series into a sweeter and cleaner version. There is still plenty of tension between the male and female protagonists. There is still a possible happily-ever-after ending between a gorgeous woman and a good-looking man. It's still a good romance story, but without any swearing or descriptive scenes.
I really liked these characters. I liked how carefree, but responsible (because she really is regardless of what others think) Jennifer is. I loved her teasing and fun nature. She definitely had her insecurities and they were her downfall on more than one occasion, but they fit her character. I really liked Reid, although I wanted to string him up a few times for trying to make Jennifer conform and not seeing how much he was hurting her. It just felt wrong that he couldn't love her as she was. Thank goodness he redeems himself!
It was a little confusing with the POV changing so much between both characters and sometimes having to figure out whose voice I was hearing. Jennifer's main family issue was also just a little weird. I could definitely see why it was such a big deal though. Those would really be my only complaints.
As I said, there was plenty of tension, some kissing, and some fade-to-black or implied scenes. Really, very clean for an Adult novel. The pace was fairly steady. I knew that things had to work out, but I was a little worried about it really happening for a little while when it seemed like both MC's were going to ruin everything. I was pulling for Jennifer and towards the end my heart really broke for her.
Overall, this was an enjoyable Adult Romance and one I would recommend to romance readers in general. There were good characters, some romantic tension, a sweet and engaging plot, and it was clean for the genre. I would definitely say it's worth the $.99 ebook price! Now I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, A Little Blackmail.
Content: Clean (There are definitely implied scenes and innuendo. There is also some clubbing/strip club scenes that weren't descriptive, but the subject matter is Adult. I would still consider this one of the cleaner Adult Romances I've read.)
