Summary

A mysterious outsider casts a long shadow on Ohio's Amish country. Policewoman Rachel Troyer has always looked after her three elderly Amish aunts, proprietors of a farmhouse inn near Sugarcreek, Ohio. The idyllic town is popular with tourists, who come to sample its famous Amish goods. But one thing is clear to Rachel - Joe Matthews is no tourist. When the bearded stranger lands on her aunts' doorstep, begging shelter for himself and his young son, Rachel is suspicious. Will she be able to uncover Joe's secrets despite her aunts' - and her own - growing affection for him?

My Review

I've read one other book with an Amish setting and it was only so-so for me, so I wasn't sure how much I would like Love Finds You in Sugarcreek Ohio. I didn't need to worry. I loved this book! It was a nice pleasant surprise.

The story kept me engaged from beginning to the end. At first it was figuring out who Joe was and concern for his little boy. Then it was enjoying the tension between Joe and Rachel and wondering if Rachel would let things go. I was really hoping she wouldn't ruin things for Joe and Bobby. It was seeing how Joe let go and found rest in his situation. It was also finding humor with the three aunts and Eli, and with Joe as he learned new skills. The scene with getting the horse bridled was rather hilarious. :)

I loved these characters! I loved Joe and his protectiveness of his son, his work ethic, his charisma, his willingness to turn back to God. I loved Rachel with her protective shell, stubbornness, and heart. I loved Bobby and all his cute lines. I loved these three aunts and their different personalities. I loved Eli and how he took Joe under his wing. The mix of characters was just great and I loved how they all interacted with each other.

There was quite a bit of drive to this story. First you had a father and son on the run and it took a few chapters before I found out why. Then there was the romantic tension between Joe and Rachel. There was the feeling of suspense from waiting to see if Joe would be found by those who knew who he was and how that would come about because, as I reader, I knew it was coming and I was dreading it. Their were also inspirational moments and I appreciated that they were blended so well into the story and these character's lives. I continued to enjoy the story as it developed and was content with how things turned out.

Again, I really loved reading Love Finds You in Sugarcreek Ohio! It was a well-written story of forgiveness, letting go, friendship, love, and trust, with memorable characters. I would highly recommend it to Christian Romance and general Romance readers!

About the Author
Author Serena B. Miller
Serena Miller is the recipient of both a 2012 RITA Award and 2013 Carol Award. Miller's first Amish novel, Love Finds You in Sugarcreek, Ohio (which was also her debut release), is currently being made into a movie for UP TV. Her second Amish novel, An Uncommon Grace, explored the world inside the most conservative Amish sect of all --- the Swartzentrubers. The third novel, Hidden Mercies, was inspired by an Old Order Amish friend, a practicing midwife for nearly 40 years. Unlike her more talented Amish friends, she has no skill in quilting, sewing, canning, or gardening . . . but they are kind enough to let her write about them anyway.

She lives with her husband in southern Ohio.
