Summary

A dangerous adventure to save a distant world Ryen is just a normal guy trying to do his job. Unfortunately, that job includes trying to save his distant world on the brink of disaster.

Ryen is on a mission to Earth to find the answers to his distant world's most critical questions. While searching the Yucatan Peninsula for a mythic figure-a savior-who would live a perfect life and ultimately die to save their souls, Ryen meets Savannah, a beautiful woman hiding a painful past. On their dangerous adventures together through the untamed jungles of Mexico, he can't help but fall in love with her. As his time runs out, Ryen must decide if he is willing to give up everything he has ever known and loved to stay on Earth with Savannah.

The Masters, a powerful clan of corrupt leaders, are plotting to take back Earth, the sacred planet, from the humans. Ryen and Savannah are thrust into the middle of The Masters' plot

My Review

This was such a surprising read! I knew that there were going to be two different worlds, one of which being earth. I knew that the people on the alien planet were looking for proof of Jesus living on earth. What I wasn't expecting was the intensity of the last half of the book.

The beginning of the book was a little slow. We're introduced to four sets of characters, which means several POV's, and the familiar earth as well as the unfamiliar alien planet. There were a couple of different story-lines occurring at the same time. You have Ryen and his companions' story as they research for artifacts, there is Ryen's ex-girlfriend's sisters who are also on earth, then Ryen's ex-girlfriend and the main villain (or so he thinks) who are both on the alien planet. We also get a few other POV's during the story. So, the first half of the book was building all of this up and giving us different sides of what was happening. There were a few places where things could have been just a little clearer or not quite as dramatic or made a little more sense to me, although these were small things and didn't affect the story overall.

The second half of the book gets pretty intense. I mean hang-on-the-edge-of-your-seat intense! There are people dying and being controlled and it's mayhem! The author did a great job of not letting her characters off easy. They are pretty roughed up and nothing goes as they hoped it would. This definitely created some surprises and twists in the story that I didn't see coming, especially because I didn't think the author would let some things happen and then she did. It was pretty gutsy, but it made it work and felt more realistic to me. Things were not easy for these main characters!

I really loved Ryen! He and Claire were probably my favorite characters. Although I have to say that the villains were such good villains and added quite a bit of creepiness and a psychotic twist to the story. I liked and disliked Savannah. She has some serious issues and is rather dramatic in parts. She also was sweet and strong. She and Ryen fall in love a little too quickly, but at the same time their relationship worked.

I was really glad that I got the chance to review The Others! It ends in a satisfactory way for a first book in a series, which means that it's not a huge cliffhanger, but I'm also really interested in seeing what happens next. The next book is going to be even better!

I would recommend The Others to those who enjoy reading Christian YA, Dystopian, and SciFi.

Content: There are a few instances of mild swearing, drug use, some intense making out and violence.

Source: From the author, which did not affect my review in any way.
