Clean Adult Contemporary Romance

Turbulence is in their forecast.

Summer Raines knows when it's going to rain. She can feel it. That's why the local weather girl's so good at her job. Too bad she couldn't have foreseen the tumultuous arrival of Travis Lockwood, everybody's favorite star NFL quarterback. Make that former star NFL quarterback. Sidelined back to Texas after an injury, the golden boy is trying to steal her precious on-air time. Summer is reduced to reporting from…football games. It's enough to make her quit and become a storm-chaser like her parents. She's stuck with a career that's going nowhere and a man who delights in her refusal to be charmed. Falling in love isn't nearly as easy as predicting the weather.

My Review

The Weather Girl was a delightful surprise! I was expecting a cute story. How could I not with that adorable cover? I wasn't, however, expecting the depth of emotions, the loss the characters experienced, the struggle with meeting expectations and finding their place, and the villain who was out to sabotage Summer. Yes, this was a sweet love story, but it was also so much more!

I fell in love with Summer from the beginning. She was cute, but feisty. She also cracked me up consistently with her weather facts that she would rattle off when she would get nervous. I loved that Travis took her and her facts in stride, that he listened, and that he figured Summer out. It helped that he's quite a hunk and definitely a gentleman as well. I also loved Summer's grandparents! They added so much to this story and had some bits of wisdom that they threw in as well.

The plot was engaging and entertaining. I was equally smiling, sighing, and getting upset at some of the antics throughout the story. I loved the romance! I loved that it wasn't instantaneous. Of course Summer and Travis are attracted to each other, but they are more intrigued by each other. Travis sees in Summer almost the polar opposite of his former fiance. Summer doesn't like Travis at first, at least that's what she tells herself. As she comes to know him better she sees in Travis much more than he sees in himself and she was just a little bit afraid of him and the threat to her world he could be if she let him.

Overall, this was pretty much a perfect romance. It's light and heavy in all the right places. There's tension and some sweet kisses and some difficult choices that these characters had to make. It all comes together in the end and left me with that happy-ever-after feeling that I love. I would definitely recommend it to romance lovers everywhere!

Content: Clean (There were a few cases of mild swearing and some innuendo, but I would still consider this clean.)

About the Author

Amy VastineAmy Vastine has been plotting stories in her head for as long as she can remember. An eternal optimist, she studied social work, hoping to teach others how to find their silver lining. Now, she enjoys creating happily ever afters for all to read.

In September of 2012, she saw a tweet about Harlequin's So You Think You Can Write contest. She entered, hoping for nothing more than a little feedback from some people in the business. Amazingly, The Weather Girl made it into the semi-finals, thanks to the many wonderful voters out there! The manuscript didn't make it to the finals, but the editors over Harlequin were still interested. A few revisions later and The Weather Girl was contacted for publication with Harlequin Heartwarming - a dream come true!

Amy lives outside Chicago with her high school sweetheart-turned-husband, three fun-loving children, and their sweet but mischievous puppy dog.

I don't know I guess it would usually be a bright sunny day, but I also love it when it rains too :)

  2. I enjoy the rain, especially in summer when it cools things down but more than anything, I am a sunshine girl. Give me sunshine with a slight breeze in the 70's range and I am in heaven.

  5. This one I didn't really find...the author contacted me for a review, so I'll pass the credit on to her. :)

  6. I just checked because the book didn't feel short - the story seemed longer than that - and the paperback is much longer at 388 pages. That's a big difference between ebook and paperback, isn't it? The 388 is much closer than the 192. Thanks, Pam!

  7. That is me as well. I love the rain, but I also love the sunshine, especially if I'm out on the beach. :)

  8. Oh, yes! Low to mid 70's with a cool breeze is perfect. That's how Arizona is for a couple of months in the late fall/later winter and spring. Of course it's also burning hot in the summer for four months, but I'll take that over cold and dirty snow.

  11. I have never read any type of Christian Dystopian type books, but if I ever do, I think it would be this one. It sounds really good, and your review makes me curious about it even more. I will have to see what I can find out about this author, and the other books! Thanks Tressa!

Any day is a great day to read. But my favorite kind of day is rainy, cloudy and overcast.
