I've enjoyed the previous two books in this series and have been anticipating Sam's story for some time, since I finished the last book in January. This one might actually be my favorite yet...
Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity
(Meet Your Match #3)
by Rachael Anderson
by Rachael Anderson
Summary
Home for the summer, Samantha Kinsey steps into her role as nanny for her two favorite little charges. But when she realizes she'll be playing chauffeur more than playmate, her summer outlook quickly turns from fun to bleak. That is, until she meets Colten McCoy--a genuine, hard-working cowboy, who's as set in his ways as he is handsome. Although he claims he doesn't need any spontaneity in his life, Sam's determined to help him find it. But she'll soon discover that cowboys are about as easy to change as wild mustangs.
Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity is about an adaptable girl and a not so adaptable guy. It's about learning to accept people for who they are and realizing that sometimes who they are is exactly who they should be.
My Review
I already knew Sam from the previous two books in this series. She was spunky and fun and the girls' favorite person outside their family, even though really she's become part of their family. I knew Sam would need her own happily-ever-after and I was excited to find out what that would be. There would have to be some twists and turns and some more serious moments, much against her usual personality, that would force her to take a good look at herself and her life. I also knew that whoever Sam met would have to balance her out while also allowing her to soar and be willing to fight for this girl full of life. I wasn't wrong. What was even more fabulous was how great the story was when Colten falls into Sam's life (although really it's the other way around) and how he turns her world upside down and the journey that inevitably follows. It was light while having some more serious and heartfelt moments, funny, romantic, full of family, and some sacrifices. It also had one of the best conclusions that I've ever read that made me want to laugh through the tears. Truly sweet.
In case you couldn't already tell from this review, I loved Sam and Colten. Loved them! I loved that they weren't perfect or that they weren't the same. They definitely had their differences and sometimes those showed, but I loved how they compromised and found things they enjoyed together and things they enjoyed doing together regardless if they actually enjoyed what they were doing. They made each other happy just for the sake of that happiness. Of course they also had a few rough patches where they turned a little selfish or didn't understand. I wasn't quite sure how they would work things out, under the circumstances.
Then the story was even more rich because of all the characters and families from the prior stories. It was like being around friends again. There was also a secondary story in the wild stallion that Colten brings home and, with the help of one little horse-loving girl, trains. That was a heartfelt, humorous, and sweet story all on its own.
The romance was definitely prevalent, but there was no insta-love here. There also was more going on. Things that Sam and Colten had to make decisions about. Big decisions. There was also a lovely family dynamic. Getting back to the romance though... It was sweet. Intense in places. A little rough in others. Perfect.
I'd highly recommend Stick in the Mud Meets Spontaneity for romance readers. It's for all of us who want to read a good, clean story that is sweetly rewarding, with an ending that makes you want to read it all over again. The first two books in the series are fabulous as well.

ReplyDeleteI love your review. I love a good romance, but definitely prefer a few other elements mixed in. This sounds like a lovely romantic read.
