Let's Talk Movies (Beyond the Books)

bbbbbb

Beyond the Books is a weekly meme hosted by Kissin Blue Karen. You can find the details here.

I thought this was a good way to talk about things not-so-bookish once in a while on here. Today's topic is a freebie, meaning I get to choose what I want and I decided since everywhere you go you see the best of 2015 or 2016 anticipations I wanted to talk about MOVIES. There's a lot to talk about here.

I didn't feel like we watched a ton of movies last year, but when I went through and listed them, at least the ones I still remember, there were about fourteen. We do tend to watch a movie at least once a month, so that seems about right. We always watch all the super hero movies and then some of the action and drama ones.

We saw Survivor, Aloha, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Jurassic World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Insurgent, Jupiter Ascending, Pan, The Age of Adeline, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Man From UNCLE, Terminator: Genisys, Cinderella, and Ant-Man. I've decided that Terminator movies really do all pretty much come across the same. The one from a few years back that was mostly set in the future felt different and reengaged my interest, but this last one was just another number. Some others were let-downs, but I don't necessarily regret watching them. Once.

Looking back, it was actually a decent year for movies. I was also pleasantly surprised by some, like Aloha that I felt was rather heartwarming and sweet with good acting. The Man From UNCLE was another one that had superb acting, a great plot, and some fabulous humor. It's one we'll be watching again. I wasn't too sure about Ant-Man, but that movie really grew on me, especially with it's style of humor. I'm looking forward to seeing him in the next Captain America movie. The Age of Adeline was also very good - a little ruined by the voice over, but good all the same. We also enjoyed the newest Avengers, although not our favorite from the set.

Do I have any actual favorites from the year? Why, I'm so glad you asked! Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Cinderella. They're favorites for different reasons, but both fabulous nods to the old classics and movies we'll be watching again and again.

What did I miss in 2015 that I'm planning on possibly still seeing? I have quite a list. Those that are definitely yeses are: Spectre (love James Bond), Mr. Holmes, The Intern, Minions, Creed, Mocking Jay Part II, and The Bridge of Spies.

There are also a bunch of movies I'm anticipating for 2016. Here are few: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (from Harry Potter's world - I'm dying for a trailer!!!), the next Bourne film (love these films!), the next Alice in Wonderland (Johnny Depp makes the best Hatter), Allegiant (one can hope for a better ending than the book series), the next Star Trek (love the new series, although I've seen all the old too), Independence Day, Batman vs. Superman, the next Captain America, and the next X-Men.

Here's a trailer of Allegiant, in case you've missed it:

How about you? What movies did you like last year, what are you still going to watch, and what are you looking forward to this year?
