Adult Contemporary Suspense
Paperback & ebook, 354 Pages

Summary

Undercover agent Omar Zagouri has been ordered to Giza. A prominent Egyptologist was murdered, and a priceless artifact—the only complete version of the Book of the Dead—is missing. Omar is still reeling from the recent disappearance of his girlfriend, Mia Golding, but he puts his quest to find her on hold to track down the lost piece of history.

Omar’s mission is not just to locate the sacred book; he must also rescue the two archaeologists kidnapped and forced to translate its hieroglyphics under threat of death. Their kidnapper is determined to discover the text’s rumored explosive revelation: that Moses did not receive the Ten Commandments from God but instead copied them from the Egyptians. Though Omar’s need to find Mia grows more urgent, he must focus on finding the enemy who will stop at nothing to ignite a controversy that will change history, and the world, forever.

My Review

LOST KING was a suspenseful story that steps back in time to Ancient Egypt and forward to present day as archaeologists uncover deadly mysteries. It starts rather explosively and the mystery, suspense, and danger continue to build through the rest of the story. The author knows how to keep the pace moving and to write characters that you want to cheer on, or in this case, worry about. With plenty of suspense and action, interesting characters, a touch of romance, and an explosive ending, this story was engaging from beginning to end. Perfect for fans of suspense and books backed by historical facts.

There were so many twists and turns or places where I didn't know what would be found, what would happen, and who would be safe. Omar was separated quite a bit from Mia and that was rough. At the same time, it built the plot up more because you knew there were other things going on. I love stories where you find out more as you read and see the plan unfold little by little. The author did a great job in giving the reader a piece of the puzzle here and there until you had the whole picture towards the end, but with still a few twists. You still don't know how everyone is going to make it out.

Poor Omar always seems to get beat up too, but takes it rather well. He has a great voice that is a little sarcastic and it gave the serious moments a little humor. Definitely made for an enjoyable read. I love Mia's character too and how they work together - even if sporadically and with some serious luck. And then there are always these villains that should really know better, but are greedy, cunning, and give me a slight chill.

Overall, another great book in this series and release from this author! Moore just gets better with each book. I'm looking forward to seeing what mess Omar gets into or assigned to next!

Content: Some violence, but clean for the genre.
