Summary

For Quinn Collins, buying the flower shop in downtown Harbor Pointe fulfills a childhood dream, but also gives her the chance to stick it to her mom, who owned the store before skipping town twenty years ago and never looking back. Completing much-needed renovations, however, while also competing for a prestigious flower competition with her mother as the head judge, soon has Quinn in over her head. Not that she'd ever ask for help.

Luckily, she may not need to. Quinn's father and his meddling friends find the perfect solution in notorious Olympic skier Grady Benson, who had only planned on passing through the old-fashioned lakeside town. But when a heated confrontation leads to property damage, helping Quinn as a community-service sentence seems like the quickest way out--and the best way to avoid more negative press.

Quinn finds Grady reckless and entitled; he thinks she's uptight and too regimented. Yet as the two begin to hammer and saw, Quinn sees glimpses of the vulnerability behind the bravado, and Grady learns from her passion and determination, qualities he seems to have lost along the way. But when a well-intentioned omission has devastating consequences, Grady finds himself cast out of town--and Quinn's life--possibly forever. Forced to face the hurt holding her back, Quinn must finally let go or risk missing out on the adventure of a lifetime.

My Top Five Favorite Things This Summer
By Courtney Walsh

I’m not exactly sure when my love affair with summer began. I haven’t always loved hot sunshine or having my kids home with me all day. (I know, that’s terrible, but it’s honest. Sometimes a mama needs a break!) But a few years back, something shifted and I started to crave summer all year long.

Now I love everything about summer. I love that the days are long. I love that we can cook every meal on the grill. I even love that my kids are home all day because even if we aren’t doing anything special, we’re doing it together, and I’m aware that there will come a day they won’t be that accessible to me.

So, with so much to love about summer, it’s hard to come up with favorite things . . . but I’m going to try, because summer is meant to be enjoyed. Maybe you’ll find something you love too!

1. Häagen-Dazs non-dairy peanut butter chocolate fudge

Oh, my word. First of all, I’m on a sugar detox, but about a month ago I discovered this non-dairy ice cream. Anyone who has been off dairy for any length of time (ten years for me) will likely tell you the hardest part is that we don’t have good ice cream. Well, I’m happy to report that’s not true anymore! This is hands-down the best non-dairy treat I’ve ever tasted, and I can’t wait to be OFF my sugar detox so I can have it again. It’s the perfect summer treat!

2. My screened-in porch

I love being on vacation, but every time I go away, I wonder why I can’t capture at home that same carefree feeling that automatically accompanies every trip. I decided last summer to create a little haven right in my backyard. It’s not fancy, but it allows for a nice breeze, no bugs, and endless hours of reading or writing time surrounded by my favorite color (turquoise!). J I could live out there, I’m sure.

3. Books!

Even though our business is busiest during the summer (we work with kids, so when they’re out of school, we’re working), I always have it in my head that summer = reading. And it does. With the longer days, I can keep my eyes open later, and my TBR pile is giant. But pictured here are some at the top of my list. I have a goal to get through them all!

4. Extended family time (with a new addition!)

About a month ago, we did something I honestly never thought my family would do—we got a puppy. This new addition to our family has been trying, of course, because puppies are a lot of work, but so fun too. Luna is a Bernedoodle, and even though I tried not to . . . I’ve completely fallen for her.

I can relate to the feeling that many moms have—“When does school start again?”—but now that my kids are older and a little more independent, I love these days where they can stay up later and sleep in later. I love that they are friends with each other and that they’ll still hang out with their parents. My daughter is a senior this year, so I’m holding on to every spare minute I can!

5. Small-town fun

I’m from a small town called Dixon, Illinois, hometown of President Ronald Reagan. If there is one thing that has inspired every small-town event I’ve ever written about, it’s the Petunia Festival. Dixon’s Fourth of July celebration lacks nothing—from the parade, to the carnival, to the fireworks, to one of our new favorites—the Reagan Run, a 5K my son has run for the past few years. There’s something so perfect about going home. And being there is like an instant exhale. Plus, we have two restaurants that are MUST visits if you ever find yourself in Dixon—Joe’s Pizza and Arthur’s Garden Deli. ;)

There really is nothing like summer . . . and I’d love to know, what are your summer faves this year?

Summary

After tirelessly climbing the ranks of her Chicago-based interior design firm, Lane Kelley is about to land her dream promotion when devastating news about her brother draws her back home--a quaint tourist town full of memories she'd just as soon forget. With her cell phone and laptop always within reach, Lane aims to check on her brother while staying focused on work--something her eclectic family doesn't understand.

Ryan Brooks never expected to settle down in Harbor Pointe, Michigan, but after his final tour of duty, it was the only place that felt like home. Now knee-deep in a renovation project that could boost tourism for the struggling town, he is thrilled to see Lane, the girl he secretly once loved, even if the circumstances of her homecoming aren't ideal.

Their reunion gets off to a rocky start, however, when Ryan can't find a trace of the girl he once knew in the woman she is today. As he slowly chips away at the walls Lane has built, secrets from his past collide with a terrible truth even he is reluctant to believe. Facing a crossroads that could define his future with Lane and jeopardize his relationship with the surrogate family he's found in the Kelleys, Ryan hopes Lane can see that maybe what really matters has been right in front of her all along--if only she'd just look up.
