Summary

“If you need a burden lifted, I want you to imagine I am in a personal, private, closed-door chat with you. I want to help you if I can.” With those words, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland invites every reader of his latest book to become a friend, to receive instruction and encouragement, counsel and comfort.

Elder Holland addresses these powerful messages “to my friends who love the Lord,” “to my friends who want to change,” “to my friends who face opposition,” and so forth. Each chapter begins with a beautifully designed quotation to help convey the message in an artistic way, making the book a lovely gift for friends to share. Throughout, Elder Holland’s powerful witness of the Savior shines through, for, as he writes, “I am grateful for the greatest friend any of us could ever have, in time or eternity, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

My Review

I absolutely loved this book! I know that it is a compilation of some previous talks and such, but I loved how it was all organized and I loved all the messages. I have always connected really well with Elder Holland and so these resonated with me again and again. I also loved that the beginning of each chapter presented a sentence or quote from the upcoming chapter that was especially poignant. There were a wide range of topics combined in this volume that I felt could easily be a resource for anyone searching for inspiration, as it was for me. Elder Holland's voice was wonderful while also being stern or teasing at times and I found my self laughing one second, feeling warmth the next, and sometimes a few tears. This is a book that I will definitely be keeping on our shelves and gifting as well.

  1. Ms. Bergren is one of my favorite authors. I just finished Season of Wonder today, and have already started on Season of Fire. She's hooked me again. :)
