My Review

Liam Darcy, I Loathe You was a fun read! It took me a little bit to get all of the characters straight, but once I did it went really fast. In fact I'm a little disappointed that I have to wait for the next book even though I pretty much know the outcomes for the characters from reading the original books by Austen. The fun comes in the different setting and the way everything happens in this modern world. Plus, all the characters are together in the same two private high schools and so that gives everything some nice twists.

I liked these characters as teenagers and all together. It's interesting to see how they fit together and who end up being popular and sweet or popular and very not sweet and those who aren't in the popular group at all or are in the middle of the two. Could Darcy date someone other than Caroline or Lizzie? How about Henry with a different character from a different book? I'm glad things seem to be mostly consistent with the stories I know, but also fresh enough that it doesn't feel too close the originals. I mean Anne as a teacher along with Mr. Wentworth? That storyline has been very enjoyable.

I wouldn't mind more than just the letters since I love banter, but it still works all in journal entries. I also would have liked the voices more distinct. I think for someone who isn't familiar with Austen that it might be tough to keep all the characters straight. It took some time in the beginning for me to keep them straight and I've read Austen and watched the theatrical adaptations multiple times. Having said that, it was a joy to read and to figure out who was who and how the relationships would form and develop. I'm still waiting to see what will happen...

If you're an Austen fan and/or enjoy books written through journal entries/letters than I'd definitely recommend grabbing Liam Darcy, I Loathe You. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
