Waiting on Wednesday: Talon by Julie Kagawa

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Here's my WOW pick this week:

Talon (Talon, #1)Talon
(Talon #1)
by Julie Kagawa
YA Fantasy, Paranormal
October 28th 2014 by Harlequin Teen

Summary

Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they're positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.

Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.

Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon's newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember's bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.

I have loved several of Kagawa's books and I love how this one sounds, with the dragons and a different sort of setting. I've heard that dragons don't play as big of a role as you'd think, so I'm hoping if I go in with those expectations that I'll love this one. Can't wait!

What do you think? Is this one on your can't-wait-to-read list?

  3. I still haven't finished up her last series - hoping to this month or next. I love dragons too, although I have heard there really aren't a lot of dragons in this one per se. It's more like they shape shift I think. Anyway, can't wait to read it regardless!

  17. I heard there's not a log of actual dragons in the story, but it still sounds good. Each of her series have been vastly different. I know some people loved her Iron series and disliked her Immortal Rules series, so it's interesting how wide her sub-genres have been. The writing and characters are always good though. :)
